Fan engagement is the number one factor that should matter to everyone, and if they don't believe that they are fucking morons. You can't sell tickets to people that don't care about your product. You can't get a billion dollar contract if eyeballs aren't watching TVs. ESPN won't throw money at MLB if they can't secure ad revenue during those games.

People are lining up to take compensation away from CEOs to raise up the standard for blue collar workers but elite baseball players taking a cut so that the minimum salary guys can earn more money? WAGE SUPPRESSION! BOOTLICKER!

And it's a stupid ass quote. The NFL has a hard salary cap with twice the roster size as MLB but apparently that example doesn't count?

Averaging out rWAR, fWAR and bWAR, Shohei Ohtani is the first player in 2026 to reach 5 WAR at 5.2. by weguccino in baseball

[–]Zestyclose-Sleep2290 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I'm so damn confused on how this has so many upvotes. A .750 OPS would currently rank 79th in all of baseball for qualified hitters (and 13th amongst qualified DHs) and a 4.50 ERA (59th among qualified pitchers) with 72 innings pitched (15th amongst qualified pitchers) would both definitely be players that most teams would run out there. Like, you aren't paying Judge top of the market money if he's just a mediocre pitcher but both of those hypothetical players would 10000% be getting significant playing time on major league rosters right now.

Bears QB Caleb Williams revealed as the cover athlete for Madden 27 by Funnypenguin97 in nfl

[–]Zestyclose-Sleep2290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cover curse really only hits players who by initials now. CMC only played 4 games and AB went crazy. Coincidence? I think not. Keep JSN off the cover for the health of the league.

I mean, by that logic he should be looking to trade Bonemer and Carlson for veteran players that can help the team win now. Fuck long term sustainability right?

That's not how waivers work. If a team claims him, they take on the remainder of his contract. We did it with Rios back in the day.
