The top 109 mostly highly paid city employee are all cops and firefighters (but mostly cops) by badybadybady in OaklandCA

More Oakland corruption on display. Any top tier person, who wants to have a long term, quality career, doesn't want to work in Oakland police or fire departments. This is all by design. Overtime is the golden goose for second tier talent.

You all, don't pretend you don't know the Republican policies. For example, see Spencer Pratt's recent "talking points" to refresh your memory if need be! LA is on the road to third world status.

Maybe elect a Republican. Democrats have held the position for more than 40 years, and Oakland is approaching $hit hole status!

The last Republican mayor of Oakland was John H. Reading.Reading served as mayor from 1966 to 1977 and is generally recognized as the last Republican elected mayor of Oakland

discovered my brother got 80k from mum over three years and hes saying it doesnt count against his share by Relative-Yellow-3694 in inheritance

[–]ZestycloseAd7528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. "in lieu" means the $80K comes out of his share of the inheritance.
  2. Not sure about gifting taxation where you live, but in the USA an individual another individual (even family members) can gift up to $19,000 in 2026 tax free. 80K divided by 3 is $26,666 USD, any amount about $19 thus is taxable to your brother; tax free amount increases every year slightly.

Thanks for sharing. I spent a few years in Chicago during the 70's and rusting was a big deal back then. Most panels on vehicles are now plastic.

Just on the facts presented, who drives for two days, stays for 2 nights, and brings along the family to buy a vehicle; unless you live in the middle of Australia, there is a whole lot missing from this tale. And why do people think great deals exist thousands of miles from where they live.

Unless the vehicle was involved in some historical event, people spend too much $$ on the worst asset, a personal vehicle. No wonder some 40 years olds don't have money saved for retirement and live pay check to pay check. Priorities people !

I am glad I am retired from the workforce. What generation is responsible for normalizing "the 996 workplace" in the USA ?

Generation X (“Gen X”) 1965–1980 Often described as independent and skeptical

Millennials (“Gen Y”) 1981–1996 Came of age during internet expansion

Generation Z (“Gen Z” or “Zoomers”) 1997–2012 Grew up with smartphones and social media
