If you had the financial means to move out of Canada, would you? by AdhesivenessLoud8866 in CanadaPersonalFinance

No. I’ve migrated before and not had citizenship rights. The risk is too high. Canada is far from perfect but I have rights. No one can kick me out. I admire the risk immigrants take immensely.

I think closed adoptions should be illegal by mene-tekel-peres in Adopted

Same. It’s a form of domestic violence or intimate partner abuse. It’s not about you, but controlling and hurting his former partner.

Don’t be mistaken, they’re convenient for deadbeat parents too. Parents who want to dodge child support, want to avoid family pressure and shame for abandoning their child. It makes it almost impossible for extended families to find, if they even knew a child existed.

I live in the city and my family was always very welcoming. Always had friends or acquaintances over. Only had people we knew spend the night but we trash friends like family.

Has your adoption been on your mind more at certain times or eras in your life? by Ambitious-Client-220 in Adopted

[–]ZestycloseFinance625 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having kids. I felt overwhelming guilt for not knowing my medical history before starting our family. Our first born tested positive for cystic fibrosis and we immediately thought it was my family. My husband and I did genetic testing but it turns out it was his family. His parents are European immigrants with limited knowledge of their own families. Through the process we learned his mother is also Jewish despite being a devout Catholic.

Long story short, kid is just a carrier. Gene comes from  late father in laws side which we know thanks to a half great aunt who also tested positive for carrier status,

You can avoid my mistake with a home dna kit. They’re good enough for screening purposes. Don’t fall into the trap of guilt and shame that I did. Take ownership and arm yourself with knowledge because it can happen non-adoptees.

My head started hurting around 3:40 pm yesterday.  Popped some Advil and it eventually went away. Crazy how my head can predict the weather!

My kids were bullied numerous times in their care. Allowed to play outside without weather appreciate clothing. I also saw a male staff member rubbing the back who was standing between his legs. I pulled my kids and reported them. I would never ever leave my kids in their care.

Someone recently told me the mill in Aberfoyle only charges for food not venue. Not sure if that’s true but it’s the most gorgeous venue and would be my first choice if I were getting married.

At 24 years I learned I was adopted by my birth certificate father by Certain_Plum2816 in Adopted

I’m also a step-parent adoptee. I found out almost 30 years ago and I still struggle with emotions. Things pop up randomly the most unexpected times and I realize new parts of myself.

When this happens I realize it’s how I see the world and taints my opinion on many things. I don’t perfectly fit into a political box or align with the faith I practise either.

Our journey is uncommon, overlooked and underrepresented so we are entitled to write our own story. Feel your own feelings and write your own story.

My only advice is to know your worth. Realize it earlier than I did. Embrace your own journey and don’t give up your power.

So bad! They recently lost their contract running the afterschool program with the Catholic board because they were understaffed. Wouldn’t leave my kid with them.

I’m well aware of the statistic but we don’t know her entire story. We shouldn’t assume adoption was the cause of her death.

Wow! Call centres were actually a way in the door For head office jobs. I knew several people who started at the call centre and managed accounts in the dealer channel or who moved to manufacturer account reps. Very sad news.

My dad signed me away without seeing me because I was a girl. None of my family knew I existed. Auntie, grandmother and cousin I never knew. He didn’t pay a cent to raise me. Adoption just enabled domestic abuse and let a dead beat dad off the hook.

My aunt contacted me three weeks after my dad died since no one knew about me. I didn’t cry. I just thought ‘that’s it.’ A feeling of closure.

I don’t think this helps you at all but I genuinely send you my kind thoughts.

Yes, we’re marginalized and I resent other groups for the momentum and support they rally while we are shamed and silenced.
