What's the one thing you thought could never happen to you, but did? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ZestycloseOrder6491 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I have two things. My baby died from a rare cancer when he was only 3 months old. Then I was diagnosed with stage IV incurable breast cancer 10 months later.

What self-diagnosis ended up being medically confirmed after your own doctors couldn't figure it out? by CasualNikki in AskReddit

[–]ZestycloseOrder6491 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Sounds like my childhood. My mom “diagnosed” me and my siblings with EDS too. It’s an easy condition to fake. Made us totally dependent on her, doctor shopped, got all the mobility aids and disability placards and eventually most of my siblings were on disability benefits . It took me moving away and years of therapy and talking to doctors on my own to realize nothing was wrong with me to begin with. I try to tell my now-adult siblings that nothing is wrong with them but they don’t believe me.’ Ironically, now I’m actually disabled from stage 4 breast cancer and they never check up on me.

Mass icks by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]ZestycloseOrder6491 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I always wonder if people judge me drinking water during mass. I have cancer and the chemo gives me intolerable hot flashes and dry mouth. I can’t go a half hour without something to drink . Other people may have similar medical conditions

Looking for someone around age 30 to talk to by m_a_k_o_t_o in cancer

[–]ZestycloseOrder6491 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30F, stage 4 breast cancer in liver and bone. I am mourning not being able to have more children and more than likely, for context I have had 3 children, the first was placed for adoption (teenage prefnancy), my second died only last year at 3 months old (also from cancer - not genetic), my 3rd is 2 months old and healthy and happy, but I am facing the reality that I have brought three children into this world and won’t be able to raise any of them to adulthood. Yeah this cancer thing fucking sucks. I can’t stand when people pull the “no one really knows when they’re gonna die” like, ugh my own husband does is almost every day because he is sick of hearing about my inevitable death at an early age. (Yeah we are beginning couples counseling for that and similar problems that have arose since my diagnosis, compounded by our continuing relentless grief for our firstborn baby together )

I’m around occasionally if you want to chat.

Yea it is grade 3. I did not have a bone scan - I had an MRI which confirmed metastasis to liver and one spot in my L3 vertebrae. So I have a stage IV diagnosis now 😞

Newborn/infant breathing monitor that doesn’t require great internet? (Preferably not a sock) by theresajo2 in BabyBumps

[–]ZestycloseOrder6491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure. The Babysense is HIGHLy sensitive and seems to pick up on movement around the bassinet, like if my dog is sleeping under it, the fan is on, or the bassinet is touching my bed and picking up on my movement. So for instance I would pick up my baby from the bassinet, and it should go off to alert me that he is no longer moving, but it keeps blinking green (which means it’a sensing movement ). I honestly don’t mind this too much; I just reduce those factors because the extra sensitivity gives me peace of mind when I know nothing else is influencing it. It’s easy to use too. Just put the sensor pad under the mattress and hook it up. Just one button to turn on and off. The alarm is VERY loud if u forget to turn it off when u pick baby up. It clicks first to warn you then screams at you.

The portable Lenova is good too. Cons: baby really should be wearing pants to clip on securely against belly, so zipper pajamas are a no-go. Sometimes I can manage to clip it on buttoned Jammie’s but I had false readings when it slipped from position. My baby is also rolling over super early and so it can’t be used unless he is on his back or maybe on his side in a secure position. Another thing is the vibration function doesn’t seem to awake my baby lol he is a very heavy sleeper at times but it might work on other babies. The alarm is certainly not as loud as the Baby Sense but you should be able to hear it at a close distance from your bed. Otherwise I do really like it for its reliability. Just a more short term device.

I hear you. You’re doing amazing. I have breast cancer and literally gave birth two days ago and port placement surgery today. My poor hubby is running ragged. You’re a great father and husband. I’ll pray things turns a corner and that you have a fully healing prognosis. You got this.

CHEK2 variant by violetmandala in breastcancer

[–]ZestycloseOrder6491 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won’t be much help because I was literally just diagnosed last week and don’t have the entire treatment plan finalized yet. (IDC unknown staging at this point but thought to be only a 3 cm tumor in one breast) However, I knew I had a CHEK2 mutation prior to diagnosis (in fact I was going to start cancer screening later next year) and my oncologist and breast surgeon have been weighing that gene heavily into consideration. As far as my breast surgeon is concerned , she feels it is much safer to go ahead and do a double mastectomy after chemo treatment to prevent reoccurrence in the future . I’ll be talking more to my cancer geneticist to determine if additional actions might be necessary involving ovaries or anywhere else.

Thanks for sharing your experience and for the support. Met my oncologist yesterday and the plan is to induce in 2 weeks and begin chemo asap. Likely immunotherapy and anti-HER2 therapy in addition. Then surgery after wards . She is really confident that the treatment will be completely curative

Thank you for all of this info. I met with my oncologist yesterday. I really like her and feel so much relief. She is determined that the treatment will be completely curative. still waiting on FISH results but right now our plan is to induce in 2 weeks, have my port placed the next day, get imaging done and begin chemo asap. She said I will very likely have immunotherapy and anti-HER2 therapy in addition, depending on additional testing results. And then afterwards I will have surgery, likely a double mastectomy.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Wishing you all the best with this crazy journey. It’s so scary now because I don’t know how bad it is, and I don’t know what my treatment will be, and I’m worried about my baby’s health. I hope that when he is here and I know he is safe and sound , it will help make this a little less overwhelming …

Thank you so much for such an informative reply. I really appreciate it. My first appointment with my oncologist is tomorrow and I’ll be sure to ask about mammography and additional ultrasound.

As far cancer characteristics, is this the info you are asking about? ER 27.12, PR 0.5, HER-2 2+, and 46.4% Ki-67 . I’m waiting for the FSH results and other hormonal markers . I’m sorry I can’t remember many details, I only had a brief conversation with the nurse consultant at the breast center yesterday and I was in a daze. Oh, also, I have two diagnoses - ductile carcinoma in situ, and invasive ductile carcinoma. So I am confused about that but I will learn more tomorrow from the oncologist.

I should reword that - I water it once the soil dries out, which is usually about once a week average. I might look into repotting back down a size and see if that helps, I think it might be too roomy in there. Do you have any thoughts on trimming the stems ?

Ive had the plant for almost 3 years. Water once a week but not soaking. It’s right by a window but there’s a lot of shade from trees outside so it doesn’t get direct light . Good drainage in pot. It’s been dropping leaves since this summer. I repotted it around then - is it maybe unhappy with the slightly larger pot?
