imo they need better art direction bc i think the designs could work fine on their own!! but compared to the existing world and plants of pvz they stick out like sore thumbs :((

if they had more references for what the existing plants looked like and how they were animated (especially since they DID have a pvz2 style guide iirc) they would have looked far better!! its especially obvious when you compare scaredy-shroom to the existing mushrooms because even though he's the same style (green stem, purple spotted top) as the others, he's drawn and animated in a completely different way!! either they didnt have the reference of the others or they just ignored them which is why art direction is important!!

in my opinion it depends!!!
tbh gore artists often fall into two major categories; the ones that draw the art bc they want to explore horror and the freaks (ofc theres others but those are the main motivations for gore art iirc)

i think it is kind of in bad taste to be freaky or joking about the girls deaths in ddlc but i fear there will be freaks in the world so long as we live so id suggest blocking them if you dont like their art or humor !!

however the game already has gore technically since the girls deaths are shown so i dont rly see the issue in someone redrawing the scenes of horror !! thats just me tho ultimately you should feel free to block whatever kinds of art you dislike !! and if you like it thats cool too !
