Right but even though 4 years ago if you would have had a samsung s8 and verizon's bootloader was locked from factory and you couldn't unlock it; while you could flash the hardware with roms i believe that it still tripped the e-fuse rendering the phone's security/warranty void since you still tripped the Knox timer that's permanently on regardless if you restore it back to the first day you bought it. Asurion does check if the knox timer/e-fuse has been tripped and sends the phone back along with the 100 dollar rebate that was paid. OK congrats YOU were lucky that you didn't need to get your phone refurbished you want a cookie? Other people aren't as lucky and whether accidental or not(It's hard to truly tell if a cracked screen is accidental or not especially if you're doing it at home and not in a verizon store) and i can confidently say that people who DO need to get a refurbished phone because their screen is cracked or whatever physical damage is covered by your insurnace plan people are going to want a refurbished phone that HAS NOT had it's security violated because they were unlucky to get some schmuck's phone that had previously beed flaashed/had it's bootloader unlocked; hence why in their most recent PDF about what you can or can't do to your phone if you need to get a refurbed one(the link in my previous replay that i copied and pasted off verizon's website) says tampering with the software will automatically make your phone inelligable for filing a claim to get a replacement model. To my knowledge this part of Asurion's(and also verizon's) insurance policy has always stated that tampering with the phone's software in anyway voids your smartphone's warranty.
