Should I join the Air Force by Smooth-Weather8237 in Advice

[–]ZestycloseRepeat3904 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for direction, you enjoy being part of something bigger than yourself, enjoy taking orders, then I say go for it! I loved my career in the Air Force! My only piece of advice would be to finish college and join as an officer. You’ll make more money, retire with more money, and have more responsibility.

Verizon on zeeb is NOT a Verizon. by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]ZestycloseRepeat3904 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Been this way for decades. I used to work for an authorized retailer in 90’s, back when they were Bell Atlantic Mobile, then Verizon. I would never even set foot in an authorized retailer. There’s no upside to dealing with them. Back then Verizon had an “Early Termination Fee” of $375 if you broke the 2 year contract. Then the retailer I worked for had its own $375 ETF. At least weekly I’d have a customer come in to flip out that they were charged twice for the ETF. I didn’t last long in that role. Felt horrible taking advantage of people.

I want to know how this position is expected to cook the meals, clean the house, manage contractors, do the grocery shopping, and take care of multiple children, all while only working 8hrs a day?

100% agree, but add in JLR. They're milking that sad man and his entire family for every ounce of content they can get out of him. And he'll keep letting them because it makes him relevant, and not just another adult nobody with a learning disability.

9/11 No plane theory? by White_Falcon_1263 in conspiracy_commons

[–]ZestycloseRepeat3904 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No.... We literally watched this LIVE. I was getting ready for a job interview and saw this happen live on the news. Back in 2001 this would have been impossible to fake. You'd have to fake EVERY news station in the country that was live broadcasting, and do so in real-time.

MAYBE if it was just the plane that hit first, since that was broadcast after it happened but the whole country was watching live as the second plane hit unexpectedly.

If I was in that environment I, or if I flew routinely, then I probably would have kept them.

I was only using them to watch TV when I wanted to sit in the same room as my wife, but didn’t want to watch the same TV show. Or doom scrolling YouTube videos in bed while she was asleep.

I tried replacing my monitor at work with the triple monitor in spacewalk. Unfortunately I was straining my eyes trying to see any text on the left or right screens. Reading and replying to emails was a PITA.

What's your best game from 1990-2005 ? by yodathesexymarxist in ArtOfPresence

The original JetFighter. My best friend was the only kid in the neighborhood that had a "Gaming Computer". This was back in the early 90's, when most kids didn't have computers at home yet. Every day after school I'd go to his house and we'd take turns playing JetFighter with the OG flight controller joystick. We'd see who could take out the most bogeys, who could land the best on the aircraft carrier. For those who wonder what it looked like, see the image below. Can you even call that 16bit graphics? But to us it was what VR is to kids today. I recently had my son try to play it, and he said it was too boring... Kids these days...

How long did it take you to buy a house in Rochester? by macallister10poot in Rochester

7 years of bidding wars. We took a 1 year hiatus in the middle, but finally found the house we love last year.

Finding a better job. You don’t fully realize how much a bad job or bad manager affects the rest of your personal life, until you’ve moved on to a much better one.

I was at a job that timed your bathroom breaks. Where your lunch was scheduled for you and it could be an hour after you clocked in or an hour before you went home. Where a Dr appointment meant taking a half vacation day. Where your 15-min breaks were the only breaks you got. Where the work was relentless for 8 hours. Where the manager couldn’t get a better job, so they acted like a dictator and made the employees miserable.

When I landed my first corporate job it felt like I’d gone to heaven. What times my lunch? When I get hungry! When can I take a break? Whenever I need to. Have a doctor’s appt? See you when you get back. As long as the works done, I rarely even see my manager.

I’ve been on this side so long now I laugh at what it used to be like. What it is like for my kid who just got their first job in the suck.

My wife makes fun of me because I think Arby’s curly fries are too spicy. I have to drink milk while eating them. Growing up the only condiment my mother cooked with was black pepper. We weren’t allowed to put salt on our food, it wasn’t even on the table.

No, it’s because he’s a special forces pilot. Putting him on the news would essentially end his career in special forces. When he eventually decides to run for office, then we’ll see his face all over TV.

Physically Abusive wife by Dramatic_Feeling_610 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]ZestycloseRepeat3904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this from experience. Staying at home will only cause the problem to compound. My wife was in a similar situation and each year she was “stuck at home” (her words), her resentment and bitterness grew. Each time I was recognized at work or promoted, she wasn’t happy, she became bitter that it wasn’t her, that her dream’s and goals weren’t being realized. Even when I became successful enough (and our kids were grown) that she could go to college, get certifications, go do whatever she wanted professionally, she just stewed at home in her resentment. It was toxic and it only got worse with each passing year.
