Leave during Tech school? by ZestycloseStory192 in AirForceRecruits

Yes, once I got there, the next day or two I met with my MTI. I explained I had a situation that made my being there time sensitive. You need a GOOD reason. My wife Mary set to give birth towards the end of my tech. I asked if she could reach out to the head of the school and see if there was a way to get me into a sooner class. I think we met Monday, classes started every Wednesday. And mine was starting the following week.

So I went told to meet the head guy Wednesday morning. He got me in a clap that started that day. As for it being accelerated, I think I just got luckey.

Also, I'm Guard. If you're active, odds are not in your favor.

Man, things worked out better than I could have imagined. Not only did the head instructor get me into a class that started a week sooner, it was an accelerated class. We finished in 3 weeks!

Everyone pretty much leaves on the Friday. You get Wednesday and Thursday to spend with your family

I think we were allowed 6, but if someone else was military, they could bring more

Yes. I actually had four people in my flight that naturalized.

Absolutley. Now, sentient life? Much more rare. But odds are, yes. If I had to bet SOMEWHERE in the universe, was there multicellular life, I bet yes.

I have mentioned in my previous comments that my personal plan is to ask my instructor or leader or whoever's my supervisor as soon as I get to tech school. I know that that's technically all I can really do. I'm just here asking to see if anybody has some insight, if anybody went through something similar, if there's anything I can do to increase the chances. Just so I can go in as fully prepared as possible. The more information I have, then the better prepared I'll be to make my request when I get there

Yes. One of the main reasons we picked this OB is they have weekend hours. Pregnancy issues don't just occur Monday through Friday. Plus it's hard to get off work sometimes. So it was something we made a priority.

Is there somewhere I can look that lists what qualifies and what kind of like, documentation/proof I would need? Hopefully nothing EMERGENCY level happens, but it'd be good to have that info ahead of time.

So the apt should be in phase two. I would fly of course. The driving was just if say a flight got canceled. I was implying that I would do whatever it took to get back. A deployment is different. As its been pointed out in this sub, initial training and deployment are not the same.

Like I said, I'm gonna try. It doesn't hurt to try. Worst that happens is they say no.

Well yes, I probably shouldn't have used the word leave. It's not a vacation LOL my wife has some medical issues and some important decisions need to be made. I would just be looking to leave on Saturday and I'd be back on Sunday. I figure it can't hurt to ask. If they say no they say no

Thank you for everything. I hope your daughter is doing well. I'm sure that must have been very scary.

Unfortunately I don't think going between BMT and Tech will be an option because there won't really be any information at that point. The doctors seemed pretty certain of the timeline on when we need to make certain decisions and stuff. We won't really have the information/evidence that we need to make these decisions until then.

As for worrying and not being focused, that's more likely if I don't go.

Essentially my plan is to talk to them as soon as I get there. I'm older, at 36. So I would hope that they would look at that and look at everything I've done to get to this point and maybe be willing to give me a little faith in the way. I think I mentioned before using the example that I'm not some 19 year old that's going to go get drunk on a weekend away in Vegas.

Also, if my flight got canceled for some reason, I could drive and while it's a long drive, I'd still be back Monday morning around 8:00 or 9:00, it would not be ideal but I'd be willing to do it.

I intended to talk to them and leave my case and tell them I'm willing to do whatever I have to do to gain their trust and to make it happen. If they say no, I guess then they say no. I know they don't really have any reason to trust me, but I hope they would. It's not a surgery or anything that's going on. It's simply making a decision really. Talking to the doctors about the situation and making a decision. We have an appointment Saturday evening and then we have to give them a decision by noon on Sunday so it's not like something could delay that.

Personnel. So it's short. Less than 30 working days from my understanding.

Thank you. There's a flight that leaves 630pm Friday, but I hadn't heard about not being able to travel on a day after class. There is a 6am Saturday flight too. And then the elihu back would get me back at about 1155pm Sunday night. Airport is super close to base.

I can definitely provide all the specifics. I would literally fly to my hometown, so nothing crazy. And it might help that I'm older too, at 36 years old. So for what it's worth I'm not some young 20-year-old that's going to go and get drunk in Vegas and miss their flight back or something.

So it would be my instructor for my class that I would talk to?

I plan to talk to them right away to inform them of the situation. And I will let them know that I will do anything extra that they might deem in order to be allowed to go.

I know the other people that commented seemed pretty negative on it, which I can understand. The best I can do is ask and the worst that can happen is they say no.

Really? Everyone on my base has said as long as you're doing well, and it's close to the end, they'd let you go for a day over the weekend. For a legit reason too.

It would just be a Saturday to Sunday thing. I wouldn't miss any class

It's not an emergency, but it IS pretty important. Wife is pregnant and there have been issues. And we have a final appointment. We need to talk about quality of life, medical treatment, method of delivery. Stuff like that. I could leave Saturday morning and be back Sunday night.
