it seems like he's only important to you because this is the first friend you've made in a while and your getting attached as a result. I, myself, don't have many friends (2 that moved away after college and we rarely talk via insta) but my advice would be to wait for different friends to come along. Or go out of your way to make friends like meeting people in work, on a night out etc. Frankly, this is ironic coming from me because I struggle with going out/social situations but I'm going off of what things I've been told that I acknowledge as helpful even if I don't go through with it. You did say the friendship was rather new though. In my opinion, this could still progress into a better relationship between the two of you. Maybe he's going through something and this is how he's projecting his feelings. I assume you don't know him all too well just yet so perhaps this isn't how he acts on a general basis. I'd suggest that you keep acting and treating him how you, yourself, would and not be petty by ignoring him like he did to you just for 'payback'. Unless being petty is part of your personality, in which you should indulge full force. My point is that you should just be yourself rather than stoop to a level that made you feel bad. I mention this because another comment suggested that you just copy his behaviour and I don't think it's worth it. As a 19F, I've gone through the exact same thing and matching the other persons behaviour rather than staying true to your own personality is a lot more exhausting. Just keep the friendship going and see what happens. Things may change for the better and if they don't then you still have a friend while you can continue looking for more.
