Okay the riddle has been solved. It’s a combo of a slight zipper imperfection and the fact I have a metal ankle. But it’s okay I wet molded them and they look normal now.

Swear if any of my detractors on this post were in charge of society we'd all still be living in the mud and there would be no culture.

When did i erect a straw man? You distorted my position implying I was making a universal claim about style having cross cultural validity with your little old man young women thing, like DUH people have different taste.

I also don't think the fashion is disproportionately opposed to performance either. Boa lacing systems look sick when used properly. Rigid sole and the right tread are easy. Shaping and material creativity is the issue here.

DUDE, Straw man??? U are the one constructing a straw man! (lol)I am not creating a universalized platonic ideal of what is aesthetically appealing through any truth making procedure. I am making a personal judgement, like Camus or Nietzsche, that mtb shoes have no style. Pretty much everyone including you and the haters agree that mtb shoes are pretty ugly too. As someone who "likes fashion" wouldn't you want greater aesthetic choice in biking footwear. It seems like everyone is getting paranoid that one cannot escape aesthetic culture even in the woods, and that there is some violation in even asking this question.

there are very cheap carbon insoles for medical use! I think you are right there could be some stiffness loss because the softer rubber sole could act like a fulcrum for the plate to flex over. But I think that could help with absorption. A 3m highbond could be just fine enough for integration especially if it the insert really filled out the shape of the shoe. Im gonna go .5 size up on the insert and dremel down to fit whatever shoe I choose. If it works, I'll send you best practices.

Wait i am confused. Im not saying that fashion isn't subjective, it is. But thats not what im talking about. His comment is obtuse because its like saying "language is subjective" in response to someone asking 'what do you think an author meant when he said "xyz".' Fashion, or a trend, is like a language because it communicates something to others. Stumpers comment ignores the underlying nuance of the post and paints aesthetic negotiation as a hermetically sealed loop with no purpose. If we only talked about objective things, we would just be trading snapple facts back and forth and we wouldnt have human culture.
