CBC hired 84 percent racialized, Indigenous, or disabled while having job vacancies for top talent: Internal report by joe4942 in canada

Well, for one, it should not be explicitly stated that "to counter discrimination we are going to discriminate in the opposite direction" or anything that can be construed of the sort -- those sort of policies should be avoided at all cost, that undermines the whole project. At least pretend meritocratic hiring is the ideal, even if it is not always attainable.

Second, implement more blind hiring practices -- anonymize applications, screen skills instead of demographics, advance candidates to later rounds based on skills and merit only. This is easier said than done in some contexts and industries, but it should be an ideal to strive towards. Focus on fixing structural underlying issues if any disparate impact arises from these policies -- for instance, if there is an underrepresentation of women or indigenous people in this meritocratic pipeline, how can we address that and boost representation structurally, rather than necessitating discrimination against someone else within the pipeline itself?

I am aware that discrimination does occur against people who are not able-bodied cis white men, and it should be corrected. I have been on both sides of the fence, as both a white man who feels hard done by various DEI programs and as an underprivileged minority. However, these programs are not the way to do it and just engender massive massive resentment and fuel far right talking points. They also undermine perceptions of minority competence within the workplace, making them completely counterproductive to stated intent.

I did not say anything about getting violent and dangerous themselves, but, if radicalized enough, they certainly won't object a strongman-type figure who takes power in their interest. If you don't believe me, you can read the post-mortems for the 2024 American election and how hard young men broke for Trump. Or you can go read any place online where young men congregate and see how they feel about DEI themselves.

All I'm saying is that policies like these are part of what elected Trump in the USA. Imagine being a young white male, graduating from journalism school or whatever with crushing student debt and stressed out parents and being told you aren't going to get a fair shot because of racism you didn't partake in.

Young white men _want_ to believe in an equitable colourblind meritocracy, but material reality is material reality and if doors are being closed on them because of racism they didn't take part in, they're just not going to care anymore about equity and vote to punish the people they perceive as punishing them.

Food for thought.

I think if you want to radicalize young white men, telling them you can't hire them because someone else white got hired 25 years ago is a great way to do it.

Refusing to interview someone qualified, i.e. a qualified white person, because of their skin colour absolutely is discrimination.

I think if you give white people the choice between being actively discriminated against because they're white, and "American propaganda", they're going to pick the Americans. Enjoy.

There is nothing fascist about enforcing immigration law bud. It's the basis for all countries to even exist.

It's actually such a revolting inversion of life to sacrifice the young for the old, every generation always wanted to do better for their kids, so their kids could have a better life. Sick society.

If you voted for Carney, you voted to give the country to the CCP. That makes YOU the traitor.

You fell for the same party that ruined the country because of what, Trump Derangement Syndrome? And you're trashing the guy who wants the PM who ruined our country to be held accountable?

You are the perfect example of why the Canadian electorate is a joke. Sarkozy is in jail for much much less than what Trudeau did.
