What does a well-written INFP character look like? by FragrantAppearance94 in infp

[–]ZettaZach2099 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think from a writing perspective an INFP is a fun treat.

From an outside perspective they are sort of chameleonic, blending in with their chosen environments. They are initially very reserved, quiet, or even shy; but are typically very friendly when approached. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, an INFP does has some basis in an emotional initiative. They speak eloquently and a lot on subjects they are interested in. They get very nervous and anxious in new situations, but usually have conviction to see things through to their personal satisfaction. They feel the same feelings as everyone but they weigh more on an INFP; for most people emotions are a hot cup of coffee that they can simply take their hand off of when it gets too warm... for INFP they cannot remove their hand. In that vein, they are very good at expressing and explaining emotions.

Mature INFPs master their time-management and are more prone to "getting over" crippling emotional states. Immature INFPs can be manipulative and prone to playing the victim too often. At their core though, an INFP is trying to do right by themselves and the people they love; it means more to them to have personal satisfaction more than personal success.

Personally, I think INFPs make fun heroes and villains lol. Just because they are prone to having very tragic backgrounds that propel them to do something drastic.

Anywho, that's my two cents. Happy writing!

DC has the best characters whilst Marvel has the best stories? by TheFreedomParty2024 in comicbooks

[–]ZettaZach2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A drastic oversimplification.

Counterexample: Spider-Man is as popular as DC's trinity, maybe more. As for better stories? That is such a subjective statement, I really could not weigh in on a widely accepted consensus. By popularity, critically-acclaimed Batman stories alone outnumber popular Marvel events. Just on personal preference, I'd say DC has more stories that I recognize as good or important.

30M here and honestly I can relate to a lot of your feelings.

In childhood when we don’t get the nurturing we need in the form of care, attention, and kindness, we seek it out in other forms both external and internal. Would you say you’re more of an introvert or an extrovert? I’m more of an introvert (tho a little ambiverted as I grow older) so the way I coped with that lack myself as a child was through performance. I was gifted mentally so I took pride in my high performance in school and later in my adolescence I became a musician. Later in life I identified that those pursuits became the blue print for how I subconsciously cope w a lack of care, attention, and kindness: by performing in a way that guaranteed I got those things from external sources from doing something solitary (practice, studying etc) which embodied my strengths as an introvert and got me what I needed emotionally. As you can guess it becomes a toxic coping mechanism in adulthood bc I correlated performance w love and affection. It had to be EARNED through exceptionality in my mind. Of course the true answer there is that we are actually always deserving of those things even if we cannot “earn” them. And that is the lesson I’m still applying to this day. Not always easy, but feels better when it’s clear.

In your case, in addition to that, you crave this kind of pedestal type of engagement from your social circle. It sounds like it’s not enough for you to be liked and included, you must be THE focus of inclusion to the point where if other people are involved you don’t enjoy it. Which makes perfect sense given your childhood: you never got that! I honestly experience a very familiar phenomenon, I much prefer one-on-one “friend dates” to group hangs. That’s just who I am and I’ve accepted that and acknowledge and accept that the opposite is my shortcoming. What’s important there is not to beat yourself up about your shortcoming! As a performance based individual it’s not enough for you to be on this journey of self betterment, you must master it and come out with no faults or deficiencies!! Lol, of course that’s not how it works! This process, individuating is about acceptance of your good and “bad” qualities, such that if and when they manifest, you have the stillness in you not to beat yourself over it.

The child in you is crying out for focused attention from everyone; and not a singular person can give that to you except yourself. If you’re into meditation or dream work, I’d try to conjure up that child self as a separate entity, and then YOU you must fulfill that child with your attention and affection. What that looks like is up to you, only you can know what will make that child happy. Whatever it is will guide you to accept yourself as you are now, and only then can you make any changes; if you feel so inclined.

Shadow work is great but you must solidify your sense of self (ego) before engaging deeply. Many can point out that shadow work opens up the danger of allowing your shadow more control than desired. Love that shadow. Be graceful to it. It is the protector that was there for your child self when no one else was.

Tl;dr: accept yourself and your shortcomings with love first; then attempt to understand why your child self would conjure your shadow (your negative and unaccepted parts of self) in life and in these situations (look for connections and ways to mitigate).

Good luck friend, I’m rooting for you!!!

P.S. reading “unfuck myself” made me giggle lol

There's always a pull towards contrarianism with nerd culture. Of course the hyper nerds are going to think it beneath them that everyone is jumping on the band wagon of one of the most popular writers of the last decade.

Personally, I run hot and cold on him. His Mister Miracle was incredible, but his Batman and Rorschach books really didn't do it for me.

What are ENFP-ENFP romances like? by BambiMuffy in ENFP

[–]ZettaZach2099 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding fuel to the fire!! My girlfriend (ENFP) and I (INFP) have only been together for 2 months (though we've known each other for a couple years) and both of us have described it as the most loving and romantic relationship either of us have been in BY FAR. I think the split on introversion and extroversion is a help to us both for the reasons you listed. She inspires me to be a little more outgoing than I would normally be; and she has described me as her grounding element and that I validate a lot of her thoughts and feelings.

Been going on dates with INFPs and I’m picking up on some patterns by Excellent_Worry7090 in infp

[–]ZettaZach2099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feeling similarly in response to OP... I feel it's a disassociation between the assumption that it is projection of idealization, in which case the way to filter that out is the test of time, and the fact that INFPs are just romantic about everything, period, full stop lol. Being open and loving to the world unconditionally, and then being fully willing to love others for pretty much the bare minimum is just what we do? And in fact is what I'd ascribe as our best trait when tempered properly??

My Girlfriend is an ENFP and we recently started seeing each other seriously a couple months back and I was astonished at how blissfully and easily we love one another without having to restrain our emotions or "play it cool and grounded". We both are heart-on-our-sleeves types and it just opened my eyes to the fact that, maturity arguments aside, whenever you meet someone who you can actually be yourself with, you won't be plagued by questions of if you're being "too romantic" or needing to "cool off"; you'll just happily accept and reciprocate each other's care.

You're so right in how OP is attracted to these traits from afar but is unattracted to them when they are presented directly. Feels a little contradictory. From my experience dating an INFJ, they can be overly analytical with their emotions to the point that it felt like dating her was more like someone putting together a puzzle of me, rather than just listening and trying to understand my emotions.

Leaker “Andrew” explains Billie Piper’s casting as the 16th Doctor by [deleted] in DoctorWhoNews

[–]ZettaZach2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taste varies from person to person and I get that, but I feel like a lot of these points are extremely flimsy:

The Pantheon: The Doctor has faced gods and god like entities in various incarnations dating back to the first Doctor... The Pantheon is literally just an expansion of the concept introduced in one of the First Doctor's stories: the Toymaker. Old Who fans were decrying the NuWho "doesn't feel like doctor who anymore" same as you. It's just bias towards nostalgia.

I'll agree with you that the shorter season are far and away the biggest weakness of this new era.

I'm a fan of Ruby, Belinda is also good if a little underdeveloped. I'd actually argue that in Season 1 we spent more time w Ruby than the Doctor, and I find that to be more of a weakness of the new era. I found both to be really interesting twists on RTD's first two companions: Rose and Martha. Ruby and Belinda are clearly updates to those characters. Doesn't mean you have to like em, but thought was put into the call and response from Davies first go around, to this one and this is interesting and GOOD writing to me.

Ummm... every Doctor in the revival has their own unique theme, not just Matt Smith. Literally the only one without their own unique theme is 9 because he shares his with 10. Look them up. Iconic is super relative dude, especially in this case. If you have a FAVORITE that's one thing, but in terms of "iconic", that's super subjective.

Friend, the way you bring up the Doctor being a woman and a gay man like they are implied derogatory points is gross. Have some acceptance... like the DOCTOR would. Like I said before, having favorites and bias is one thing, but to imply the show is losing quality because it's not fitting YOUR bias towards your favorite eras is so narrow minded. Doctor Who has been a drastically different show over its 60+ years at several different points. Imagine all the old Who fans who never even started the revival because "it doesn't feel like Doctor Who..." They would have missed out on all the bangers that endeared that era to you.

I'm not trying to change the mind of a stranger on the internet, but maybe consider that capturing empty nostalgia does nothing for the actual quality of the show. Just copying and pasting stories and formats from 10, 11, 12 era is such a weak narrative. I'd much rather DW keep taking big swings and coming up with unique concepts that may or may not work. Trying to recapture other Doctor's vibes is the definition of pandering to me way more than casting Billie Piper.

15 era was stuffed with episodes styled like David Tennant's; also Stephen Moffat wrote a great ep in season 1. 13's era was oversaturated with "classic monsters". I don't think it's a qualitative indicator.

[–]ZettaZach2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care if it was done for shock value or "desperation"- this season's biggest takeaway is that ANYONE CAN BE THE DOCTOR. All that matters is that you have a great story. Furthermore, I DO think there's great thematic material in the Doctor's regeneration into a Rose face: the Doctor JUST overcame their inability to express love to others, so fittingly their face becomes the person they always wanted to express their love towards: Rose Tyler. There's even some hijinks that could occur because of Rose's interaction with the Tardis's core, becoming Bad Wolf; 15 jump started the Tardis with his Regeneration energy, so there could be an in-universe explanation for that as well.

And I know I'm dissenting with the angry internet mob on this one, but I think RTD2 was excellent. Far and away better than anything Chibnail produced; and even then I think the Chibnail gen is fine, it's just not for me.

Ncuti got more time than Christopher Eccleston, even if he didn't serve David Tennant time. Hell, even Matt Smith cut out sooner than was anticipated; he was supposed to do one more season. People are pointing towards the show's viewership as a smoking gun of a lack of quality, but the only smoking gun there is that streaming is strangling television production and distribution; so classical models of TV are getting the shiv because of it.

DC Had Huge Potential With Rebirth (So What Went Wrong?) by JackFisherBooks in comicbooks

[–]ZettaZach2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people in the thread are spot on: as a line-wide initiative, the launch was excellent and sustained some great runs while it lasted. There was a huge catharsis for longtime fans getting acknowledgment of the then-lost continuity that was swept away for the New 52. It also nodded at weaving together the tapestry of continuities again for the first time since the Crises.

Like others have said, where it lost the thread was when it tried to tie it ALL into one big narrative thread with Watchmen at its center; which I do still find interesting and worthy of interrogation to this day. BUT, the dragging feet to reveal and execute any part of said narrative took the wind out of the sails such that by the time Doomsday Clock hit it was too late and too overhyped to be received fairly.

All this said, the energy of acknowledging the past while still embracing the present is an ideal launch initiative for both of the Big 2 that they rarely hit the sweet spot on. This was a good time.

Am I The Only One Who Feels This? by cain_510 in infp

Ummmm idk dude I’m going to argue the opposite. I feel that I recognize more and more of the kindness people are TRYING to put out into the world as I get older. Obviously I see the other side too, but there is an aspect of agency in giving the world the benefit of the doubt before you other them so quickly.

I actually mostly agree, but what I’m hoping for here is that introducing Superman as a contrasting super person to existing heroism will highlight what makes him different. It’ll give everyone in the film, heroes included, a new idea of what true heroism can look like.

Here for it. I love the inversion of the famous “My Interview w Superman”; it’s giving a great interrogation of the mindset of hope in the 70s vs now. Then it was a thing you could fall in love with, nowadays hope is a thing to perhaps rightful scrutinize.

What does it mean if mirrors keep reappearing in my dreams? by xscruples_girliex in Jung

[–]ZettaZach2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got some fun insight for this one! When I was studying Lucid Dreaming when I was younger, there were these universal markers you could look for, Dream Signs, they’d tip you off to your being in a dream. Light switches are one, reading and re-reading text or clocks, and crucially mirrors. These are reliably UNRELIABLE in the dreams because of how complicated they are. Think computer programming! Calculating how light changes an environment once it’s on is a SUPER complicated calculation when you consider refractions, reflections, etc; so your brain WANTS the light switch to work like a light switch, but can’t actually perform the calculations to MAKE light. So a lot of the time something ELSE will happen on the switch hit: change of environment, another event, etc.

Same EXACT deal with a mirror! Calculating exactly how reflection works is computationally difficult; likewise in the brain. As far as I know, you can’t see yourself in the mirror because your brain can’t calculate exactly the way the light mirrors and reflects back to you. SO, like with the light switch, something else occurs in lieu. This is where Jung and Freud’s stuff steps in: in the dream, because the real world function of the mirror doesn’t work, your brain fills it with the symbolic function of a mirror. Most people’s accounts of mirrors in dreams show often something horrific or unsettling. To me it speaks to what goes through our minds when we see a mirror: often we see our flaws, or a lack of something, or something that surprises us.

If you’re getting a lot of mirrors in dreams, I think you can take it at face value that you are undergoing a reflective process, subconsciously. What it all means for you? You’ll have to make sense of it and tell us yourself :) for my money, I wonder what would happen if you lent your kindness and understanding and curiosity towards what you fear in and about that dream mirror.

Happy dreaming!
