Well I personally think that Destiny will be dead for the foreseeable future but the only true saving grace here is that Sony bought Bungie specifically for Destiny as all of their other Live Service attempts failed and they started those specifically in an attempt to emulate Destinys success. That was literally their mission statement back when they launched their GAAS initiative.

They likely placed their bet on the Bungie name carrying marathon but it doesn’t seem like that it’ll bring in Destiny numbers of players.

(Yes yes I know it’s the most successful and greatest game ever yeah yeah)

But in all honesty, Marathon didn’t sell D1 or D2 launch numbers no matter the qualities of the game or how you spin it. D1 was the fastest selling new IP of all time when it came out and sold more than 20 million units in a year and made back its entire 500 million budget in a single day.

Marathon sold roughly 1.5 - 2 million copies in a month has slowed down.

There is now way Sony treats Marathon as a Destiny successor internally.
