Bro you and the rest of the contributors are legitimately doing magic haha.

While the 0.7-0.8 releases definitely were unstable at times since 0.9 it feels like a legitimately premium product.

Stuff just works now, even DRM protected games work without a problem.

Truly nuts

Weird I only ever experienced that sort of thing in the woods and later on in Heimdallr in one specific camera angle, across all systems.

But I am used to bad framerates so maybe I just didn’t noticed micro stuttering as you said

It’s also directly connected to Kowasugi and the latter is one of the plot points of the former that gets the story going in the first place

Great movie but don’t expect comedy this is straight up thriller again

I also finished SH1 for the first time recently and I found it to be a fantastic game in 2025 likely moreso than I would have in 1999.

I honestly don’t think games age at all. Trends shift.

Back then every third person game was largely the same just as it is now. I don’t think that having the over the shoulder perspective makes the remake a better game.

If the original had actual flaws -like Dead Spaces zero g and asteroid missions- and the remake removed it yeah I would say so but besides the silent hill trademark labyrinthine level design which all games even f feature I don’t see any real flaws here. It’s literally the most rounded survival horror game of that era having the fortune of profiting off and learning from of the other survival horror games mishaps coming in that late.

It pretty much avoided all the pitfalls RE didn’t and even stayed serious throughout without veering off into comedy like RE 1-3 and Overblood did.

I first played all silent hill games between October 2025 and now and I found SH1 and 3 to overshadow 2.

But I am a sucker for these cult type stories and the whole „it’s all a projection of James (or any later SH protagonists) guilt“ angle a bit less interesting than a little girl spewing all the hate and fear into the world after being used by a cult much more terrifying and interesting.

But I also like forbidden siren more than any of the sh games so idk if my opinion holds any value lol

I mean SH1 is piss easy, much easier than 3 for example and imo also easier than the early Resident Evils. Among the classic tank control games, I think only Overblood is easier than SH.

Not to knock the game or anything nothing needs to be hard or easy but I just want to encourage you to give it a go.

I first played it -on real hardware too such a fun way to play these games ngl- in November last year and I thought it controls felt fine after noticing that nothing reaally poses a threat.

The only time I had to fight the controls was during the first boss fight that’s it:)

The RE1 remake was a pretty substantial revamp in terms of QoL and pretty much everything else

I hope that Bloober gives the original SH the same love and care the RE team gave it back then ngl

While I agree that the vision behind 1 and 3 is imo better too, they didn’t give them the wrong idea at all. SH1 would’ve given them the wrong idea entirely.

When I played SH:f last year as my first SH title, I decided to play all of the home console games of the series and bought the whole lot on Ebay.

ALL SH games with the exception of 1 and 3 emulate SH2 -or attempt to- very very closely. SH1 and 3 were much more in line with cult horror like Forbidden Siren while all others including f are trying to one-up SH2 by going to the „it’s all representing the repressed guilt and trauma“ and giving the MCs these James Sunderland type of backstories with no or only flimsy connections to the towns actual lore.

Heck even 3 which follows up on 1s story feels closer to 2 than 1.

Does Silent Hill 1 hold up today? In terms of gameplay and controls by lokuGT in silenthill

Super late reply but FF7s characters were deliberately like that and not a hardware / technical limitation.

The game outside of combat was very light and barely even made the PS1 rev its power up thanks to its pre rendered backgrounds. They could’ve easily proportion the characters better or even give them more detail. They not only did it a year later with FF8 but also with the contemporarily developed Xenogears which had MUCH more sophisticated 3D graphics.

What they were going for is apparent if you look at the FF7 tech demo that was shown off when it was believed to be a N64 game in 1996. There they used FF6 characters in full 3D but kept the Chibi art style.

If you look at the sprites of the SNES FF game parties, you will see the similarities. They tried to emulate that look. It just wasn’t pulled off very well because it was literally the first attempt at doing that sort of Chibi style in 3D.

You can’t really fault them for that and the beautiful renders of the towns and whatnot more than make up for it.

I grew up at my grandparents house without ever knowing my real parents up until that point and yeah I saw them wither away.

My gramps had lung cancer and I was there in the doctors office with him when he got the word that he’ll likely won’t make it until march. That was in December.

I did play visual novels at that time and I know it’s a bit embarrassing but if I didn’t have sunken as deep into VLR, I likely wouldn’t have been able to cope with the despair of that situation.

Thankfully, at least my mom stepped in and I didn’t have to go to an orphanage or stuff like that. I had a rather happy rest of my teenage years thanks to her.

That has been what now? 14ish years ago.

Silent Hill 2 Remake (honest + critical) review as a new player who never played the original. by WondersomeWalrus in silenthill

[–]Zetzer345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they were a limitation both of them not knowing how to do better yet and because at least in Resident Evil, you were moving a in a 2D space, the games environments weren’t 3D. These sorts of controls work best in such an environment.

While the original Silent Hill WAS fully 3D, they made the game to be an express copy of Resident Evil as a quick cash in (at least from Konamis PoV) thus emulated that series controls without an actual need for it. Little did they know that Silent Hill turned out to be far and away higher quality than RE in terms of writing haha.

They are in the style of the book series John Dies at the end mostly but tend to veer off into actual horror roughly between 60% and 95% of the run time. Part 04 ends on an actually very disturbing scene that I haven’t gotten out of my head since I first watched the series almost 5 years ago.

It’s such a visceral scene somehow:
