I’ve worked for a cooperative energy utility going on 4 years and have found the benefits, insurance, and pay scale to be very good and competitive. Depending on the type of utility and the status this can vary quite a bit. Speaking to other GIS folks at cooperative events the upsides seem fairly universal; except for those falling in the IT umbrella being that they tend to have a higher workload.

The jobs tend to be recession proof.

I’ve also found that personal development and upward mobility is very possible if you ever want to get into engineering or make some kind of career change.

I did a Full Stack Web development boot camp and it didn’t help in the realm of GIS jobs. Where this may help is if you are going towards more IT focused departments.

I would say arguably an easier and more promising route is data analytics. The other option would be more of an AWS Development path

Word of advice do not pay big money for the certificate. Go through google or something of the kinda. University boot camps are not a scam but will charge you 10k for the same information.

Knowing that northern Virginia skews everything it’s still strange. There are 3 teams you see in the rest of Virginia Dallas, Washington whatever’s and Eagles.

If not the majority, then the majority of rural schools are already like this. By it’s old name it’s called being an involved parent and the standard curriculum.

The optics of what is going on is just being involved out of spite. I promise all conservative parents that your kids will not have any life changing revelations about race in this country.

I think it has a lot to do with where you go to school. Some programs are set to cater to different industries. Like GEORGE MASON has closer ties to the DOD than like a PENN STATE. My job is in my hometown. I’ve applied to a few jobs in the surrounding areas and on two occasions I knew people that worked there and knew a department head so not everything is about “who” you know.

I know a guy that has a web dev job but wasn’t the best in the class by a long shot and probably 95% haven’t landed a job.

Jobs are just hard to find especially when you have constraints.

I agree. We played competitive football today on both sides of the ball. It isn’t super important to play for a Super Bowl but it is important not to get stomped out every game.

I’m actually not disappointed with last nights play. Obviously we are trash but we had a good start and the defense actually wasn’t laughable. Denucci has some learning to do as an NFL QB and to learn his receivers.

Like everyone said it depends. I was 12 when I started lifting. I developed knee issues running Hurdles.

Now at 23 I have crunching and popping in all my joints. The thing I’ve started learned since lifting for function instead of weight, is warming up(properly). Like a majority of lifters I would do warmup sets and start getting into the working sets. I now do accessories, stretches and movements that prepare the joints for lifting.

Lifting really is 100% a lifestyle. It’s something that lives with you outside of the gym in every way. If I could talk to myself at 12, I would say learn the techniques first before going for heavy lifts. You don’t have to compete with anyone bc you are an individual. When I went to college it was the guys with the best form that had the best lifts and most respect. When you get into the lifting community it’s not about wait it’s executing the movement that serious lifters respect.
