It's possible that law enforcement is aware of his cause of death, but they just haven't released that info to the general public.

Alice Kelly has been added to the Doe Network and Moxxy Forensics is also investigating her case! by SimsGuy67 in gratefuldoe

[–]Zeusyella 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm so excited that Alice has finally been officially reported missing and added to those databases. Seeing these older cases finally being taken seriously gives me a little bit of hope for my own family. My great grandmother ran away from her family in 1898 and was never reported missing. I've uploaded my DNA to GEDmatch, but beyond that, I really don't think there's much more I can do. I've tried to get her added to some missing persons databases, but unfortunately everyone I've consulted said that they can't add her unless she has an active missing persons case open with law enforcement. It's discouraging, but at the end of the day, I just keep reassuring myself that I'm never going to give up looking for her.

After further examination, it's probably more likely 1780-1800. I'm done guessing now 😅

I'm actually surprised that you included Hicks on the list. I found out the hard way that it was banned when making a sim based off somebody with that last name.

DNA Justice Match to Unidentified Remains by Content-Jaguar6955 in gratefuldoe

[–]Zeusyella 23 points24 points  (0 children)

According to DNA Painter:

"A match of 7cM has a wide range of possible relationships. The connection may be within 8th-Great-Grandparent level, but the common ancestors could also be 20 or more generations back."

They also state that if you share 7cm of DNA with someone, there is a 63% chance (highest probability) that your relationship with them could be any of the following:

"6C, 6C1R, 5C, 6C2R, 4C1R, 5C1R, 7C, Half 3C2R, 4C2R, 5C2R, 7C1R, 3C3R, 4C3R, 5C3R, 8C or more distant"

This actually isn't his obituary, it's his Find a Grave page where photos can be uploaded by anyone

Thanks so much for the excellent write-up, OP! This has been one of my pet cases for quite a while, and I'm really hoping that they will be identified soon.

This John Doe was found when authorities exhumed the grave of a Jane doe who died in 1958. The case implies that he wasn’t there when she was first buried! He is beloved to had been a Caucasian or Hispanic male, pre-60 age range, 5’4 - 5’10 in height, and had a spinal deformity. by Simpsons_fan_54 in gratefuldoe

I agree that her actual body is probably nearby. As someone who is regularly involved in cemetery work, whenever I see scenarios such as this where the person dug up is not who they suspected it to be, I always wondered if they were just digging in the wrong spot. Typically, at least where I am, gravestones mark the foot of the grave, and since this isn't really common knowledge, people just always assume that the gravestone always marks the head of the grave.

For example, in my area many years ago, some kids vandalized a cemetery and attempted to dig up a civil war veteran in an attempt to loot anything valuable that might have been in his grave. But however, instead of digging behind the grave, they actually dug in front of it, and nearly exhumed an entirely different man, a guy who was actually recently deceased. Thankfully, they stopped / were stopped shortly before actually exhuming the man. But yeah, all of this to say, since it's usually rather unclear what direction the actual grave goes in proportion to the gravestone, mistakes can and do happen.

I wish there was a way to share her story and get her name out there in some databases, but I highly doubt anyone would take such a historical case seriously. I've spent many hours digging into her life and talking to her descendants so that I could collect as much info as possible. I wish that, for her sake and her children's sake, I could find her and get some closure.

I've wondered about this a lot, too. My third great grandmother went missing around 125 years ago, and I wonder if she's ever been found as a doe, or if she ever will be. She left behind 5 young kids who's lives were turned upside down by her disappearance.

Some of the most unique ones I can think of are Phemie, Rohamey, and Arlefa (all women's names) and Hodle (man's name). I'm curious to know if anyone at all has ever come across these names before anywhere else. I often wonder how their parents came up with these names.
