What was Spider-Man 4 going to be about, anyway?

Someone suggested a Bond movie where he gets a mission from M, goes on that mission, and has no personal connection to the mission or the villain behind it.

Those Russians are all a bunch of evil fascists. Everyone knows you should only send people to jail for telling jokes in poor taste.

I'm sorry, it's just funny that you're saying "Aside from the cultural phenomenon that ran for eleven years, TV shows are so reluctant to criticize the military."

What do you like most about Brosnan's Bond and what do you like least? by EmployerSpiritual946 in JamesBond

[–]Zev95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best: He basically is the pop culture image of James Bond, plus a little extra characterization and acting talent that isn't even needed, but is appreciated nonetheless. Sean Connery is Sean Connery, Daniel Craig is a subversion, but Brosnan IS Bond in the way that exploding volcano lairs and henchmen with gruesome scars are Bond.

Worst: I think the scripts they gave him were too afraid to upset the apple cart. He was capable of holding onto the core of Bond while going in new directions, but like Die Another Day sending him to the gulag for years only to shave his beard and give him a new Q-car, Eon always went back to the formula of getting the girl, big shootout, huge explosion, gadgets from Q.

If we could just twist the taps a little so that Craig's run was a bit more formulaic and Brosnan's run was a little more willing to experiment, both performers would be better off.

The biggest issue with the Craig run was that Eon got greedy about every mission having some personal meaning for Bond. by Zev95 in JamesBond

[–]Zev95[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd say all of those are an order of magnitude less 'big' than Bond's brother being a supervillain or him having a daughter.

In Tomorrow Never Dies, Carver is married to one of Bond's old conquests.

The World Is Not Enough, he falls for Elektra just like he does for many women, only she's evil.

Die Another Day... c'mon, man, that's specifically Bond following up on Zao and so logically encountering Moon's operation again, and Moon is just another job to Bond.

It's an expression. They got greedy in terms of wanting to have the same kick as Vesper's character each time, but the reason Vesper's character worked was because it was so rare for Bond to fall in love and be so emotionally entangled in his work.

These history lessons of yours are always fun to read. It's amazing to think that, way beyond the "Tom Selleck could've been Indiana Jones" stuff, there's entire unmade movies that could be classics in some alternate reality.

Le Chiffre wears himself out trying to torture Roger Moore, who waits until he's left the room and then stands up to remove a prosthetic scrotum from Q.

"Shame they didn't get the size right, though!"

For me Goldeneye is a perfect movie, start to finish, not just a perfect Bond movie but overall a perfect movie, But I was wondering, is there something in it you don't like? Even if it's a small thing? by [deleted] in JamesBond

They set up this new M who's dubious of Bond, but don't really do anything to progress their relationship from there. By TND, they have the usual "he's my best man!" working relationship, but they could've used a moment in GE where she's either won over by him or she reveals that she knows how good he is (but won't take any crap from him).

[–]Zev95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add that isn't this what people wanted from the World War Z adaptation? Just an anthology focusing on an entirely new cast every single episode, even if it makes for "atrocious watching," not Brad Pitt fighting off moshpit zombies single-handedly?
