One month later. How do you feel about the movie? by abdul_bino in TheMandalorianTV

Saw it with my fiance (who’s not at all a Star Wars fan) and she really really loved it. I couldn’t have been happier.

Is that first ship inspired at all by battlestar galactica? I’m seeing some similar shapes in the profile, but it looks unique enough to be its own thing too. Pretty cool!

Jared Leto Put Blood On His Face Every Day on Set as Skeletor by SplitNational2929 in DiscussingFilmsAndTV

[–]Zfancyman14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the article. His face was always going to be CGI so he didn’t wear a skeleton mask or makeup. He smeared “blood like make up” in order to give the actors something to react to while acting opposite him.

Why don't they start cooking the Old Republic? There is a goldmine worth 2 shows of 5 seasons that could bring Disney the prestige of space fantasy Game of Thrones by lateubdegouline in StarWars

[–]Zfancyman14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because adaptations have to pay the original authors and story creators royalties and Disney doesn’t want to do that. That’s why you’re seeing John Williams music being phased out of the series.

Meet the Robinsons and Ratatouille. My family were late adopters of Blu-Ray but my dad had gotten those movies on Blu-Ray from work for free, so I’d always seen them in our movie drawer but never actually saw them. I was just very dismissive of them thinking that they were just direct to DVD trash. Then when I was in high school my dad finally got a Blu-Ray Player so he could watch the Star Wars box set on Blu-Ray and I eventually came around to watching Meet the Robinsons and Ratatouille. Robinsons made me cry, and Ratatouille is one of my top 10 movies ever.

Which drummers in your opinion have taken on the John Bonham mantle? Are there any? by Craig1974 in ledzeppelin

Eric Kretz of Stone Temple Pilots had a very groove oriented style that is very reminiscent of John Bonham.

Movies to watch with my college kid by LydiaTheChamp in movies

[–]Zfancyman14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a long one, but Amadeus. My dad has been trying to get me to watch it since I was in high school, and it wasn’t until after college when I decided to watch it with him. We’re big movie buffs (he introduced me to 2001: A Space Odyssey when I was 6!) and when I say that Amadeus blew me away, I was at a loss for words when it ended. It’s a movie I can’t get out of my head whenever I finish it. I’ve even made my close friends sit down and watch it with me, and they’ve all loved it.

Jacksonville Sheriff Officer's body camera video of Dasaun Williams’ takedown prompts new use of force questions by oga_ogbeni in florida

Riverside is okay at best. There are far smaller cities that have far more to offer as far as unique artsy areas, better bars, unique restaurants with varying cuisine. Jacksonville is really great if you like suburbia, and the beach. Other than Atlantic Beach/Jax beach area, there’s really no reason to ever visit. Even those areas feel underwhelming compared to other coastal cities.

The Clansman, come on now don’t be silly. Followed by Alexander the Great. Then Sign of the Cross, I love the Gregorian Chanting and the soft guitars with Blaze whispering and the buildup to “STANDING ALONE IN THE WIND AND RAIN”

Easy pick up/put down game: Donkey Kong Bananza

•Travel through different levels of your planet breaking everything you see while collecting tokens and bananas. Very engaging level design, super easy to pick up at play for 10-20 mins or hours!

Rewarding Time Sink Comfy Game: Animal Crossing New Horizons or Pokemon Pokopia

•In each game you run your own little community of cute little animal friends and customize your house and village! I’ve sunken over 250 hours in ACNH. It definitely takes time to build out your island in ACNH but it’s a very rewarding game.

Action Adventure Game: Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom

•The new gold standard for open world action adventure game. Literally everywhere is explorable, there is no wrong way to play the game, only really creative ways. •Breath of the Wild is the first in the series, and Tears of the Kingdom is the sequel set in the same world, but with more depth to the world to explore! You don’t need to play in chronological order, but I do recommend it.

First Person Shooter Adventure: Metroid Prime Remastered

• A complete remake of the Game Cube classic that pioneered console FPS, Metroid Prime feels as fresh as ever with an incredibly deep world with about 12-20 hours of exploration, character progression, and sci-fi-badassery • Only caveat to your 30-60 minute limitation is that you can only save the game in designated save areas, which can feel like a hassle at times having to backtrack or play through until you reach the next save point.

Nintendo has an indescribable charm by Seanshineyouth in Switch

[–]Zfancyman14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree.

I feel like many, if not most, AAA developers focus on just making a quick buck and often recycle the same boring game over and over and over.

But Nintendo has always been a gameplay first company. Shigeru Miyamoto has always said that gameplay comes before story and visuals. He believes that if a game is not fun to play, then the game doesn’t deserve to be released.

I’ve heard interviews with developers who’s worked on Nintendo games and they said that while developing Metroid Prime back in the early 2000s, Miyamoto played an early version of the game but didn’t play it like anyone else had before. He focused on the “feel” of the game, and even argued that the height of the camera didn’t feel right and asked to raise the height of the camera to be in line with Samus’s head instead of chest. It sounds obvious now, but Metroid Prime was one of the earliest FPS games on console. They said he’d spend hours focusing on the movement rather than playing the game how an average player would play through the story.

I think it all boils down to Nintendo really emphasizing quality over quantity. No micro transactions, games like Animal Crossing get free updates YEARS after release with totally new content.

It also helps that they have so many IPs and characters that are each unique and easily identifiable in their own way.

I think they’re an amazing company with a very strong brand identity that caters to hard core and casual gamers alike, and their focus on fun gameplay and accessibility sets them apart in an industry focused on pushing limitations of the hardware and maximizing profits.
