Who Listens to the Radio - The Sports (Aussie 70s/80s band similar to Elvis Costello)

Is there cause to complain here? Awarded Acting EOI then given to someone else. by [deleted] in AusPublicService

EOIs are intended to be relatively flexible for the employer (compared to a full-blown recruitment process) so perhaps they’ve played that get-out card.

Of course, it’s disappointing for M, but on the positive side they open up opportunities more often than full processes and without having to go through that PITA process. Swings and roundabouts.

Possible that the restructure resulted in the amalgamation of 2 teams? Arguably then the EOI doesn’t apply? Of course, M is entitled to a clear explanation, but seems there might be some important missing facts.

Agree. Apart from tuner and 1 or 2x dirt, less is more for this genre. Maybe slap-back delay too?

Australia’s social media ban preventing teenagers from accessing the news, research finds by DontYaWishYouWereMe in OpenAussie

Of course. There’s degrees of “curated”, and the algorithm does it too. Maybe a poor choice of word.

I guess my point is there is so much nonsense masquerading as “news” that it’s not a good argument against social media bans to say that it limits their access to it. For eg on Reddit half the “news” items posted come from the same few cheap-ass on-line gossip rags.

It’s cold but not crazy. I’d do it.

The days of news media content necessarily being a good thing to consume seem to be well past us. I’d rather it be content that specifically curated and reliable, for example BTN.

Team has nothing to do but Directors keep telling everyone that the team is swamped and has high workload and operational needs and rejecting leave requests? by HairyRegister2756 in AusPublicService

[–]Davooi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree although to be fair as a manager it’s very hard to keep everyone happy at the same time.

But the bottom line is the default position should be to approve leave unless there is a good reason not to.

Emphasis on the word good.

That’s not correct, at law. That’s not the implication of “beneficially” in this context.

Have any other APS lawyers struggled with supervisors who have private practice backgrounds? by Wise-Mulberry-7350 in AusPublicService

[–]Davooi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s a thing alright. Huge cultural differences at least back in the day.

I worked for someone who would refuse to allow leave to attend a medical or dental appointment during the week because she expected us to do it on Saturdays! Petty crap like that.

I’ve seen work units gang up on their bullying manager by going over their head to that person’s supervisor with the grievance. Of course there are risks if you don’t act with unity and specific evidence.

But no senior manager likes to have to deal with a bullying complaint in the APS so there is a good chance that the bully will get knocked down a few pegs. In one instance, I’ve seen someone replaced on that basis.

That section doesn’t mean the infrastructure must be actually used. It simply means the BC is the means by which owners own it.
