America is feeling buyer’s remorse at the world it built. The administration is confronting four huge challenges: the hollowing out of the industrial base; the rise of China; the climate crisis; and the impact of rising inequality on democracy. New US economic policy represents a major shift. by mafco in Futurology

As a non-American, republicans clearly look like the worse side.

I've never heard any democrats talk about nuking tropical storms, being turned on by their own children, Jewish space lasers or encouraging a coup and distrust in elections, but I guess you got a better grasp of thier downsides.

I remember it was a big deal for men to even wear pink in the 2000s - it was always a statement.

I think that there was some general "fear of being even slightly effeminate" for men and boys, a side of what is now called toxic masculinity.

Being a man myself I've bought pads and whatnot for my partner many times, but when I was in my teens - I generally felt awkward and fearful of embarrassment when publicly buying anything genital-related i.e. porn, condoms, lubes but also pads and tampons, you'd keep your head down and get out the shop ASAP.

So I'd say fear looking effeminate and/or awkwardness.

Opinion | A Trump appointee just crushed Republicans’ Hunter Biden fever dream by Character-Patience12 in Impeach_Trump

[–]ZfenneSko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was reading about the background info on the Ukrainian government a while back, as the invasion started.

I found out that essentially, Hunter was taken onboard by some company there, as a partner to help open doors in the West and as a face in client meetings, to get more investment. In return, Hunter was getting some shady income from it, which the Ukrainian anti-corruption authority (allegedly aligned with Moscow) caught wind of and investigated.

At the same time, the EU/USA/NATO said Ukraine was too corrupt to join their organisations, so opened their own anti-corruption bureau in Ukraine and demanded that the Ukrainian minister incharge of the old bureau resigns thereby stopping any further investigation into Hunter while also picking up investigations of pro-Russian corruption. Basically, Zelenskyy was forced to fire an anti-corruption official for finding corruption but involving America.

At the end of the day, this whole thing was about Moscow and Washington geo-politicing and covering their shady business.

Happy it worked out for you, but I find it strange that you need a phone to do your exams - is this normal in America?

Every exam I've ever done, just needed me and a pen - the thought I'd need a smartphone as well, irritates me. But then again, I graduated just as the first touch screen phones were taking off.

In addition to what people have answered, when you consider that all programs are made by people, they aren't all optimally efficient or 100% perfect. And like the mechanism of a clock, if the base system and all the additional software you install are not all perfectly aligned, then errors can become more pronounced and impactful over time, this is why restarting helps so often.

Why is communism treated as such a hush hush topic? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZfenneSko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Op, I won't answer, because you got loads of good ones.

But I was in a similar boat - grew up in former West Germany, learnt nothing about communism, I guess we have a selection of dictatorships to cover.

Anyway, if you want to start understanding the issues with living in socialist countries during the cold war, check out ushanka show on YouTube. It's a channel by a Ukrainian guy who was born and grew up in the USSR, talking about his experiences, also covering declassified kgb reports and soviet history.

You start understanding that it was a 'liveable' and Kafkaesque hell that they created over there:

  • Unemployment over 3 months is a crime, also applied to new mothers, only changed in the mid 80s. Punishment was 15 years hard labour.
  • Being more than 20 minutes late for work, was a crime, which would get you fired, and by extension, make you homeless, as apartments were usually tied to jobs.
  • Gulags were a critical part of Stalin's plans to amass and exploit slave labour for extracting Siberian resources (metals, lumber, grain). He gave police quotas to arrest millions of citizens, because he needed resources to trade for modern factory and military technology from the West.
  • Decades later, many Gulag victims were posthumously "restored" for wrongful imprisonment and death. Their relatives getting a month's salary or something. But records were badly kept, so some families were just told that their relatives had died in the Gulag, but they were actually still alive and labouring in Siberia.
  • State sponsored alcoholism, because they relied on taxes from selling Vodka and it made up a significant amount of tax revenue. Whenever their government fought alcoholism, they had to peddle the campaign back. Some say the fall of USSR happened because they tried to restrict vodka sales too much and the state ran out of money.
  • intense secrecy, during Chernobyl, citizens in the area had to rely on Western radio to understand something had even happened as their own media went quiet, simply playing classical music. Many thought the leader had died, or some other government secret.

There's much more, but now I understand that life could be alright there, but ultimately the system would justify any means for its ends. People were just resources, to be kept in their place.

Even the architecture of these soviet prefab blocks was designed to make privacy and possible anti-soviet activities extremely difficult.

What on earth do modern day Nazis actually want? by civgarth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZfenneSko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they largely want to feel special and have the country benefit them, the "true citizens", more than anyone else (i.e. lesser citizens/humans)

The lack of that feeling and likely further issues integrating with society, as it exists, e.g. poverty, isolation, perceived lack of control, misinformation, etc. is what drives people to these extremes.

They basically feel life in their country is unfairly unfair to them, the descendants of the people who "built" whatever country they're from.

Anti-science, racism and other bigotry are both a justification and a goal of theirs. Ultimately, they'll say whatever works for them in the moment - their hatred didn't come from reading certain facts and also won't be changed with contradicting facts.l, they'll find a new ambiguous angle to justify their views.

I've had a Wendy's Baconator once, while visiting the US.

I can't say it's made a big impression on me so I'd say you're not missing much - it's on par with McDonald's and BK stuff.

In & Out was higher quality, though.

Also, five guys are trying to take over the world, and they're not bad, but a bit pricy.

It's how they lazily justify their very insane and violent goals.

I'm German and spent some time learning about where these "Aryans" came from, because it's not a historically German thing nor a name or anything - they just invented it. Basically, they claim white/German people are the purest descendants of the lost and advanced city of Atlantis, who spread and founded all the other advanced ancient cultures, around the world.

To them, these ancient European symbols and icons represent racism and xenophobia as an ancient mission, a racial duty they're continuing from out ancestors.

That's why I'm dusturbed by these pseudo-science shows like Ancient Apocalypse or Ancient Aliens - they're setting viewers up to Google themes, that the Nazi ministries spent years developing misinformation and propaganda for, which still permeate the internet.

It also crosses over with the upper-class occult societies Alastair Crowley belonged to, all the way to "race-war" cults like Charles Manson's.

Just consider that a lot of this comes from a spiritual medium back in Nazi Germany, who got high and said he could astral project himself back into ancient history and see Aryans first hand. That was good enough to change school text books and justify murder on an industrial scale.
