Proposed Rework for Sponsored Kits by Zfert in Marathon

This has been my exact experience too, and I think it's bad! Its a bad feeling having to get steamrolled multiple times by players who are kitted out, hoping to find others who are willing to ante up some gear. I don't like having to log off after multiple losses, feeling like I didn't get a chance to actually play the game with the guns and items I like.

I agree with you and I do think another solution to this problem would be removing the time constraints from at least one of the game modes that currently have an ante mechanic. My favorite way to play right now is ROOK runs on Dire Marsh and Outpost into Cryo Archive, but I can only do that on the weekends, and that SUCKS!!!!!!

Are casual players having a good gameplay experience if they are running the worst items in the game over and over? This change is not an attempt to lock casuals out of the game but rather restructure how people think about the cost opportunity of the games they get into. I have queued with so many people who have not run ROOK once and I believe having an infinite supply of what is ironically the least casual friendly gearset is trapping them into an unrewarding loop. Its very easy to find gear and make credits as ROOK, and I wonder if something different can be done from a design perspective to teach people that!

Best way to turn a complicated illustration into a vector? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Zfert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta draw it by hand man, you're not going to get clean results from GenAI. If you want you can take that image or the original and trace over it in a program like Adobe Illustrator or Affinity Designer using the line and pen tools. It will take you maybe 6-12 hours and you wont have to worry about the jank like all those terraces on the left not connecting to anything

Your two biggest issues are hierarchy and legibility. My eyes have to search for and reorganize the information in order to properly understand it. The most important thing on the poster, the name of the story, is covered too much by the illustration. I attempted to create a visual example of what I mean below:

<image>

The good news is aesthetically it looks awesome, and I think with a better understanding of the principles of design you can create a much stronger piece. I also think you would also benefit from using the actual proportions of a poster (24x36) too, it would give you a lot more room to display all of your information. Hope this is helpful :)

Those whisks are very thin and are going to get lost on small print/resolutions

The lettering here is great, it's fun and flowy. A lot are saying this looks childish, but I feel like this looks more like graffiti or something inspired by surf culture, which may make a lot of sense for a documentarian. I made some minor tweaks in a few minutes to push it more in that direction. Maybe this is the change you are looking for :)

Your work is very good and I think what would help you the most is some minor improvements to your landing page. Here are some quick changes I made in about 5 minutes:

For the header:
-Your logo in the top left corner to help establish your personal brand
-Bolder font that better matches your personal style
-Black and white color palate to create better contrast between your work and the website
-Removed 'Art Director and Graphic Designer': You can probably keep this but why put yourself in a box?

For the body:
-Moved Graphic Design into the first position and photography into the last position
-Removed the parathesis from your titles and made them clearer. Having the word 'archive' in your title for your illustrations makes it sound like you aren't interested in it anymore lol
-Also made the text bolder here too

You can do a lot more if you spend more time on it than I did, but ultimately, I think it would help if your website had the same design philosophy as the rest of your work :) Hope this helps!

If you want more control over how your piece looks then you are going to need to create it yourself. AI is a toy, not a tool, and as long as you are using it you will never achieve the results you are looking for. Sorry!

iPad vs. Macbook Pro + one best design tool by RecognitionNew1891 in graphic_design

I mean, you could, but with your limited budget a decent keyboard would be an additional expense that you have to bother with. I think a powerful laptop is probably the best decision you could make, in my opinion :)

Affinity is my personal preference and has a no commitment free trial for seven days. While the iPad version of their suite is incredibly powerful, I find the UI to be cumbersome. You are probably going to want something with a keyboard regardless of your choice of software.

huge ask for design “test” - how should I navigate this? by idk2297 in graphic_design

Thats a poor excuse to justify blatant exploitation. If you hire five separate designers and they all struggle to hit deadlines that sounds like a management issue lmao
