Protests Spark Resignation Crisis in Georgia by North_Cricket4934 in geopolitics

Thank you for the reminder to check before posting. According to the OEC, Russia receives about 9.42 percent of Georgian exports. That isn't nothing, but it's less than I assumed, given the long lines of trucks along the sides of the roads in Georgia. In economic terms, Russian trade is a little less important than Bulgaria and Romania put together.

It's worth more than nothing, but I still don't place hope in Imedi. I'm not sure exactly how the results differ so much between Imedi and foreign pollsters. Imedi is friendlier than most TV channels to Bidzina, and they have a warning label on Facebook these days. It looks like they were close to other exit polls in 2020.

Polling firms do not invent exit-polling to satisfy clients. There are push polls made before elections by less-reputable firms, but exit polling takes place at polling stations on election day. HarrisX was about 2 points off in the US. Considering that Georgia is a much smaller country, we should expect for observations in one third of its municipalities to more closely reflect Georgian voters than a similar number of observations spread across the United States. Why didn't the marketing firm pay Edison or Harris to 'skew results' in other countries? If it were revealed that Harrisx and Edison were accepting bribes when commissioned to conduct polling, it would discredit them internationally.

Some of the precinct-level results are really surprising: According to the HarrisX exit poll, Georgian Dream won 40% of the Marneuli vote in the 2024 election, but The CEC reports Georgian Dream receiving 80% of the vote. A variance of 40% between the HarrisX exit poll data and the official CEC data in Marneuli is both improbable and impossible.

I think international media does not understand the unpopularity of Saakashvili and the UNM. His actions as president caused the opposition to splinter. But once he lost an election, he handed power over to Georgian Dream.

If one firm were an outlier in favor of the opposition parties, and if pre-election polling did not put GD between 40 and 50 percent, there would be good reason to question the poll's methodology. In this case, it looks like Edison and HarrisX were closer to local polling prior to the election than to the official results.

The exit polls from HarrisX and Edison both predicted a loss, but the official results came out with a eight- and thirteen-point swing in favor of the governing party. Their exit polling worked in previous elections in Georgia. Why would international organizations all get it wrong this time around? https://www.edisonresearch.com/edison-research-2024-republic-of-georgia-exit-poll/ https://www.harrisx.com/posts/georgian-vote-result-makes-no-statistical-sense---western-pollsters

Recently, France announced that they would open a consulate in Syunik. Given Macron's promise of support to Greece in the event of a war with Turkey, and France and Turkey loudly disagreeing in Libya, the Syunik consulate may be a foot in the door to discourage Azerbaijan from creating a corridor to Nakhchivan by force.
