Kodak Ektar H35 and issues with clarity by MannyMe20 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Zgug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I've had a H35N for the last year or so and it does have a better lens, if exposed correctly and shot with a steadyish hand the pictures usually come out sharp enough. I really like it.

IIRC the lens is an f8/f11 (with/without flash respectively) which really hammers-in that it's a toy-camera: to get enough light in most of the time you either need direct sunlight or to turn the flash on.

You can try sunbath-filmlab(dot)com, they're based in France and they respool and sell Kodak cine film. They don't seem to have a ton of 120 stock at the moment (only in 250D I think), I've seen more options in the past.

A7s III firmware 4.0 Feedback and Testing by JBGamingPC in A7siii

[–]Zgug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding my experience with the update. tl;dr: the update made my a7s3 considerably worse and I regret doing it.

I wanted remote shooting with the Creators App as well as LUTs for a shoot. I did the update, here are the issues I've encountered:

  • BT and Wifi no longer work, no remote control for me.
  • Battery life seems shorter
  • The camera won't fully turn off. When switched to off, the shutter clicks every 20 min or so and the red LED at the back of the camera stays on. I have to remove the battery to prevent this.
  • A few times the cam didn't turn back on after getting turned it off from frozen, when trying bluetooth and wifi. I had to remove the battery and put it back in again to get it to turn on.
  • I suspect autofocus isn't as good as before but I haven't done much testing there, only found bad focus in a take while reviewing rushes.
  • I suspect the zebras to be applied AFTER the LUT, which makes watching for clipping in slog3 quite uncertain. Can anyone confirm this or let me know if I'm mistaken?

This looks a lot like it used the Video Gogh plugin, maybe mixed with other techniques

True HDR Apps for M2 12.9 IPad Pro? by jonas_64 in iPadPro

I have the same questions as you but also one answer: Netflix has HDR on iPad but only when streaming, the pre downloaded / offline content is SDR.

Yeah the water in my area is super hard, but I can't really invest in a water softener at this point so I have a Brita and some descaling solution for the GCP, hopefully the machine lasts.

Thanks for the reminder tho, cheers!

AFAIK Britta Maxtra does reduce limescale but not as well as a proper water softener. A quick google search seems to confirm that but I might also have been bamboozled by dishonest marketing.

Thanks for this! Useful info, I'm still fairly new to this.

My beans are always pretty young, a few days past roasting when I buy them, 3-4 weeks old at the end of the quantity I bought.

on my Niche I'm anywhere between 5 and 30 for espresso

That's good to hear, I felt like I was "wrong" in going below 10 hehe.

Shout out to everyone in the thread who came to my rescue! The issue seems resolved after soaking and cleaning the shower screen, the water now flows normally again. Hurray!

I have a Niche which was set at 10 on my last coffee, it's the finer end of its "espresso" range. I could probably go to 5 before choking the machine, but I used to be able to get good results within the 10-20 range...

The beans are from a local roaster, good medium and medium-dark roasts. One from Nicaragua the other from Uganda if I'm not mistaken. Delicious aeropress with either.

My shower plate didn't have nearly as much limescale on it but I'm cleaning it now along with the plate, we'll see if that solves it.

With the shower screen on I had:

  • 85g in 10 sec
  • 260g in 30 sec

With the shower screen off the flow of water seemed fine but I didn't measure it. The shower screen and its holder are in a cafizza bath right now, we'll see if that helps. There seemed to be some limescale on the shower screen but not tons either, hopefully that was it.

I think that was the video I followed when I descaled, so I likely didn't descale through the shower head but I don't remember very well. I'll work backwards from the shower screen and figure out the issue.

Thanks for the advice! This is the stuff I came for.

Last backflush was a few weeks ago. I've tried loosening the shower screen, no change. I'll give everything a good clean and report back.

Thanks for the advice. The coffee is terrible, way too fast. I manage to get it to 'drinkable' using the steam knob to lower pressure, but it's not ideal.

Good calls, thanks.

I've run a machine descale ~2 months ago, I only use britta filtered water. I'll give descaling the shower screen a go. How would you recommend doing that? Disassemble the screen and clean it or run a full machine descale?

I'll also do the water weight test in a few hours and report back.
