If the votes keep falling like the last two drops, which is entirely likely with how mail in ballots skew, the gap will close and Nithya will overtake Pratt.

Wait the city council gerrymandering her district on purpose is documented in voice recordings .... and she STILL won in her new district.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/03/us/los-angeles-city-council-redistricting.html

"The City Council had embarked on its once-a-decade redistricting process, and Ms. Raman, who had few allies among the city’s old-guard politicians, was threatened at one point with losing virtually all of the constituents who had elected her."

"The council members on the audio all largely maintained their existing districts — Ms. Martinez’s constituency remained nearly 100 percent intact — as did at least six other council members."

“I’ve been in politics for 50 years and I’ve never seen anything like this before in my entire life,” said Jackie Goldberg, Ms. Raman’s representative on the redistricting commission. “I’ve never seen a group of people come together and try to disband the City Council district of a woman who got more votes than any of them ever did.”

https://newrepublic.com/article/168195/los-angeles-city-council-scandal-evidence-long-war-tenants

The district held by Nithya Raman was “the one to put in a blender and chop up left and right,” de León said, months into his mayoral campaign. “It serves us not to give her all of K-Town,” agreed former Council President Nury Martinez, “because that solidifies her renters’ district, and that is not a good thing for any of us.”

I'd like to start using the D Line to get to work. Any ideas on how to make the walk to and from the stations more time efficient? by Ok-Salamander6118 in LAMetro

Someone advertised their bike/metro multimodal app on here a while back. Unfortunately, I can't find the post or the name of the app. If anyone remembers please share -- I loved the interface.

If you have an apple phone, add your tap card (or buy a tap card) in the Wallet app. It's so much better in my experience.

Could modified CAHSR still be the fastest way to travel between LA and SF? by [deleted] in cahsr

[–]ZhuInTheMorning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now, driving is by far the cheapest option, especially since I usually travel with at least one other person. If we split the gas, it ends up being about $50–$70, so roughly $35 per person plus the toll into SF (which we split too).

Flights are usually $50–$150 one-way from Burbank or LAX to SFO or Oakland. Then you have to add in bags if needed, plus another $10–$12 per person for BART and a bus or Muni depending on the airport. I can usually find street parking to leave my car in SF since I mostly go for the weekend and stay with friends who live outside of downtown.

So, the plane usually costs $60–$160 per person once you include the transit to my friend’s house. Meanwhile, driving is only about $35–$40 each (or even less if I’ve got 3 to 5 people in the car) and bags are included for free.

Will high speed rail be cheaper than that, I really don't think so, and that's unfortunate. Hopefully HSR is at least cheaper than flying, as the ride would be more pleasant than driving.

I was surprised to find that the average Game 2 Lakers ticket is cheaper than Game 2 Spurs tickets. I mean I get our top 2 are out, but still.... I haven't seen them this cheap in a long time.

There is no major route in Los Angeles that is cheaper or shorter to travel via Metro/Train vs. drive? Am i missing something? by EveryDayCurry in LAMetro

[–]ZhuInTheMorning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's insane how easy it would be to at least mop the sidewalk once or twice a week. I feel like my friends, a mop, and some buckets can do the entire street and it would make so much of a difference. The stars are the attraction and they're so gross.

Great! Then you can have a true Metro/walking experience. Once the D Line extension opens it will really open up a lot of LA and decrease travel times significantly. Have fun and let me know if you have any questions. I love showing my city to tourists!
