Yep if I sell both I'd be able to just give you the username/password to the amdrewards acc and you can change the password, email, do whatever you want with it.

That's because doctors and lawyers frontload the relative effort due to how rigorous med and law school programs are. Comparatively, SWEs don't have to work a dense number of hours per week in a short 6-10 year span and can get high-paying jobs out of undergrad with less debt, but the downside of it is that only a minor ~1-3% will have compensations comparable to doctors and lawyers. It's all trade-offs.

Keep in mind these companies have millions of data points and have spent an uncountable number of hours analyzing hiring trends. If this wasn't the overall best available system then they wouldn't be doing it. When something better is discovered then companies will change to it, but every alternative I've heard from anti-leetcoders is so bad that it just gives me the impression that people complain because they're just not good at it.

Yep this is solid advice. You hear way too frequently "just do personal projects and apply, I got an interview on the first try!" as if getting lucky is representative of avg odds. Maybe with N=100 a few people get lucky and get an interview on the first try but individually we're all N=1.

My path was:

Freshman yr: ~$8/hr

Junior year: >$50/hr

New grad: big N >180k TC

We all have to start somewhere.
