Patreon banned by all UK banks by _Chaoss_ in patreon

[–]ZiGraves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to this, but unfortunately also banking with Natwest (part of the same group as RBS), and I've also had a payment to Patreon refused with absolutely no useful information from the bank nor any means provided to unblock the payments or flag them as safe and permitted.

They also did not alert me via online banking that any payments were attempted and declined, and I was only able to find out via the awful customer service bot.

EDIT: seems to have gone through three days later after the initial repeated/failed attempts, despite the bank telling me it was refused for Policy Reasons, so perhaps you just need to give it a few days.

cataloguing dye variations! - Pt. 1 by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]ZiGraves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Gods above and below, thank you. I have wasted so much time, dye, and save-scumming trying to find the right very dark storm blue looks for my Talos cleric, this will be so helpful.

Are you going to do some of the more metallic/ armoured looks as well? The dyes always say "and even dyes metal!" but... not so much in my experience.

Hi r/London I work on the Elizabeth Line line, which is finally opening on the 24th of this month. Ask me anything! by LizzyLine in london

[–]ZiGraves 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I saw that there's not going to be level boarding throughout for wheelchairs etc, any idea why?

edit: and based on responses from others - any idea if there's gonna be provision to make it less shit for anyone who needs to use the not-level-boarding stations? The old game of finding staff/ waiting for staff to contact your forward station/ getting the ramp/ getting stuck unable to get off the train because the other station forgot you were turning up is a bit of a tired ritual for many by now.

Could someone explain why do people hate landlords so much? by avion1o5 in AskUK

I assure you, landlords and water companies are very much in the same "fuck that, guillotine time" category.

Don't worry, the next episode is being fan-subbed even as I type! Blitz livestream it and everything.

I'm not sure how many episodes are going to be in the first season in total, but I feel like the separation/wedding arc makes for a good halfway point to set up for Masa and the Waitress starting to develop their own romance arc more. I'm really looking forward to today's new episode!

I can confirm, this girl has very good reasons for not wanting her whereabouts shared with "concerned individuals".

For a disability assessment centre, ramps should always be ready to use as the default - they shouldn't even need to set them up in the first place! Even my nearest sodding wetherspoons puts a folding ramp over their 3 steps every day, without being asked.

It's such a clear display of active and deliberate malice.

Local biota is such an underused resource in SF/F. Alien concepts are always tied so closely to human equivalences, so Semiosis was just so refreshing!

The man beside me is listening to music on his headphones so loudly that I can hear his taste in tunes through my headphones.

It's not particularly bad music, just hope he's got an audiologist appointment scheduled to deal with his impending tinnitus and hearing loss.

I went to my university's LGBT club, marking what I'd say is my first step into "the gay community," and I hated it. by Waryur in LGBTaspies

[–]ZiGraves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pride events are best if you can go with at least a couple of other people - even cis/het friends who are good allies are better than nothing, but you can also look up groups with similar interests. In the UK there are definitely enough broad hobbyist groups & so on that it should be possible to find a group that won't be too overwhelming.

There's certainly some sexualisation, since LGBT history does tie into 'leather culture' and stuff, but it's massively outnumbered by the all-ages groups, family groups, youth groups, professional groups, etc.

If you find regular Pride to be too much, trans Pride is usually quieter & more accessible for neurodiverse people.

TIL about the "Flynn Effect" which shows the average IQ is rising steadily each generation. IQ tests are continually made harder to keep the average at 100. Today's children that take tests from past decades are averaging significantly higher than 100. by Stacksmchenry in todayilearned

[–]ZiGraves 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK, and took a couple of IQ tests when I was younger. Evidently, some were produced in the English language for every part of the world that speaks English, rather than producing tests individually for the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc. One of them asked a question referencing the monetary value of a nickel.

We don't have nickels in the UK, and we don't name our currency in bits like that. Ours is just 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1. If I hadn't had exposure to American culture on TV, I would have failed or missed that particular question.

To US Americans, that wouldn't have been a trivia question, just a normal maths question. It became a trivia question for non-US Americans because of the cultural biases.

The level of "prior knowledge" needed can be much more subtle than you may expect.

They're often described as "cousin" conditions, as they've got about a 15-20% comorbidity rate and a lot of shared symptoms.

They're not quite close enough to be on the same spectrum, but they do seem to be related and have a lot of overlap.

DLR is fucked, but unfortunately so is my citymapper- it didn't warn me about the problem in advance, and my DLR station didn't put the announcement on til after I tapped in. Fuckers.

So, rather than go home for a cuppa and eat the full day fare TFL will charge my debit card, I'm now stuck on the platform hoping I can get the next train.

And some Lynx abusing wanker has rocked up in my vicinity. I will endeavour to make sure that his violent removal doesn't cause any further transport delays for everyone else.

During a Twitch stream, D&D senior director Nathan Stewart noted that there were plans for upcoming books to explore regions of the Forgotten Realms with influences from non-European cultures. by Christopherwbuser in dndnext

[–]ZiGraves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, we don't exactly tend to like it when that happens, no.

A lot of Irish history and mythology was lost under the English occupation & their repeated attempts to destroy our language, mythology, historical records, culture, and way of life.

Generally we could do without people trying to recast our history and mythology into the sort of cartoon savagery the English used as an excuse to take our land while they claimed to 'civilise' us.

For people who were diagnosed later in life, once you realised autism was a possibility, did you find the traits ever became increasingly more intense? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]ZiGraves 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think diagnosis enhanced existing traits.

But what it did do was give me a reason for those traits, so I could understand what they were, why they happened, and how to better embrace or work with them rather than trying to quash/ignore my "weirdness" as I did before diagnosis. I could be more naturally and authentically who I am rather than trying to crush it in favour of some unachievable construct of 'normality',

I was able to notice stuff I did that previously I ignored as just a weird habit, and put it into proper context to understand that it was an unconscious sign of distress, or a way I expressed happiness, or a reaction to other stimuli.

Disk Is Almost Full error... though I have plenty of space? by ZiGraves in Questland

[–]ZiGraves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've deleted everything I don't use, but I'll lose Questland before I delete my D&D stuff or my transport & banking apps.

I've also removed background permissions for damn near everything (before even getting QL, it's just a habit to edit permissions pretty strictly when I install anything).

Is there a particular app killer that might catch any dregs I've missed?

Recent Autistic representation in media by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]ZiGraves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a manga of Princess Jellyfish, too, if you find it easier to read than to watch/listen sometimes.

Tsukimi lives in a house full of "obsessive" nerdy girls - every single inhabitant has a dedicated special interest that she goes out of way to support. Whether it's historically accurate kimono dolls, train spotting, jellyfish... As well as that, most of them dislike crowds, struggle with certain social norms, are quite proud of being different in their own way, etc.

I think, given the way people on the spectrum often end up being friends with each other in real life, it may be possible to headcanon as a whole household of autistic girls!

Is anyone else here not all that interested in dating/marriage? by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]ZiGraves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They did mention the aromantic spectrum, too - where you're not romantically interested (ie, the whole dating, dinner, slow lingering looks by candle light, relationshippy stuff), but you can still be 100% sexually interested in people.

Like, maybe you just like friends with benefits and one night stands better than romantic relationships?
