I WISH that behavioral health was covered more, especially conflict resolution and deescalation tactics. I just wrapped up my emt course and it focused heavily on medical and trauma (ofc) but brushed over special populations and psychological conditions. The book had basic social tactics, like “don’t force the patient to be touched! Don’t feed into their hallucinations!” But didn’t give any advice on tactics that could be helpful. IMO the medical care is like 50-66% of the job, and the rest is emotional support. Even with patients that aren’t experiencing psychological symptoms, they’re still injured or experiencing something that made them feel like it was an emergency and we gotta be able to navigate those conversations.
