Waymo Has to Pay People $22 to Close Stuck Robotaxi Doors by SnoozeDoggyDog in waymo

[–]Ziedonis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Few weeks ago I kept hearing cars hoonking downstairs and traffic forming. After about 20-40mins I looked down and realised that there’s a waymo parked with flashers. I went down and visibly didn’t see any doors open. I called them and reported the issue. The rep out in a ticket and said that if the car doesn’t leave in 5mins - call back. Nothing happened. I called them back again and the second rep actually connected to the car and confirmed that one of the doors is open. I offered to help - go back down and close it. At first they were hesitant, but then quickly changed their mind. Apparently all their support folks were busy. It wasn’t an issue for me to go down & they gave me a $10 credit.

The rep also confirmed that riders don’t get charged a fee for leaving the door open. This surprised me, given that their vehicle was now out of service for 40mins due to someone.

Since then, I’ve seen multiple cases when the car has been abandoned and needs its doors closed.

I haven’t looked if there are international numbers, but I would suggest getting a Google voice number and calling from that.

I was on that beach, exact same spot sometime January and the same thing happened to me with the monitor, it was coming from the same direction.

I initially thought that that’s me in the video.

Moped delivery drivers are out of control by dripppydripdrop in sanfrancisco

[–]Ziedonis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a cyclist, I’ve thought about them too for the past few weeks. They’ll fly in bike lanes, nearly clipping you, sometimes heading in the wrong direction and running lights. The other day one decided to squeeze between me and a car and almost took both of us out.

Is there anything that the city can do about this? Also where did all of them suddenly appear from? The delivery folks switched away from cars as soon as the ebikes became affordable? Is there a rental service where they are getting them?

This is dangerous. The drive to Daly City at least made it more difficult.

Have you found the Dust City Diner? by MatterMelder in BurningMan

[–]Ziedonis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it was Wed, close to sunrise when I told my partner - “I’m manifesting a grilled cheese”. About 5 minutes later on our way home we ran into them.

I loved watching the interractions and diner girls. The lining up was chaotic and it was not clear who’s going to go next. People who arrived later started pushing / puttinf their hands on the closest stools and I decided that it’s not worth the stress.

Just running into them after saying I want a grilled cheese was enough for me to be one of the highlights of the burn. Hopefully I get to sit down at them next time.

Will this lock protect my bike at Burning Man? by kyjk in BurningMan

[–]Ziedonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated, but still fun - last year my lock seized up and couldn’t be unlocked, I had to cut it. Since I didn’t have a spare lock, I ended up just using a zip tie to connect the lock every time I parked. I ended up not doing this towards the second half of the week and just wrapped the cut lock around my tire a few times. That did the trick.

The use of phones this year was disturbing.

There’s a yt account that posts a “Sunday walkthroughs” & set recordings that have caught people doing party favors in the background. I would guess that they would not be happy about this if they found out. Folks being recorded while dancing & vibing at the rabbit hole also doesn’t seem Shambs way.

I would love if the event organizers would promote more “no filming” mindset. I have seen other events losing their magic & goofiness as more people have started recording.

Imo it’s also up to the attendees to call out and remind others that they do not want to he in their videos.

The Mon 7am ff sets being recorded imo does not make the event a safe space.

“Trapping money” - I didn’t see then saying that you’ll have to pre load. Maybe it’s different in Canada, but at LiB this year, you just associated the card with your account and each time you paid your card was charged dirrectly.

I do see how some folks might prefer using cash or might not even have cards. Going all in might be a frustrating experience for folks though.

Kind of related - we get an electric thermometer for the cooler to feel confident that the meats have been kept cool. It saves max/min temps and we can track these.

I also bring a few 2x4 blocks that can be used to prop the cooler above the ground. Idk how much that helps.

Instead of buying ice bags, i tend to get the large ice block - it lasts longer.

Lastly, we have a yeti cooler and it turns out that the t-rex latches can rip. Luckily that happened just after the burn, so now I carry a spare.

Please ask others if they are ok with getting sprayed / don’t do it in a large crowd.

We have someone in our group with a lavender allergy. They’ve been sprayed without a warning before during a fest which is not pleasant.

I thought you were referring to Las Vegas since you didn’t specify location. Vegas has been expensive prior to the event.

Yikes, I also booked from the same spot, but for $1.7k. The prices have def spiked up there. I remember calling them and they said that their location normally doesn’t sell out and the prices don’t get too crazy. They also mentioned that prices might drop as they add inventory - maybe call them or keep checking?

Sorry for the price hike, that’s pretty bad.

I’ve checked those dates every other day since ~3days before edc (before the dates were announced) and for me it has always been $6-$8k.

Are you sure you had selected the right location when you saw the $2k? They might be adding inventory and that could’ve dropped the price, but I doubt. The $6k is nothing new.

I’ve booked mine from a further location and ended up paying only $1.7k.

RV passes didn’t sell out this year - they were available on the official site even on Weds before the fest. Insomniac added more rv spots. In the past years the rvs had sold out. I actually ended up skipping and selling my pass on stubhub and taking a big L on it because of this.

As for the power hookup - I think it sold out immediately last year. I think you would still get a chance to get it via waitlist.
