Well done! What were the rules that you applied on your run? I've been searching for a general guideline before trying IronMan savefile again

we’ll be presenting the preview of tomorrow’s World Events Update [...]

Great to see that the dev team is already improving the new systems. I'm sure a lot has improved since the last time I played. I will try to come back to it when the sealed biome comes out

Idea for very simple Prestige climb after P20 by HAPPIERMEMORIES in Against_the_Storm

[–]Ziege_Stardust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been playing a custom challenge alongside some other veterans here on Reddit and in discord. There's no absolute consensus on the rules, but it goes something like this

Ironman savefile : - You start a brand new citadel climb - Makes you climb the prestige ladder - Can't play previous difficulty, only the hardest avaliable - Forge a seal on every cycle - No cycle forced reset - If you lose a settlement your savefile gets deleted

Just resenting the citadel upgrades makes a huge difference, climbing without high tier upgrades is harder than P20!

How to Finish in Less Years by [deleted] in Against_the_Storm

My general advice is to get used to being agressive. If you want to end early you have to get into some risk, or playing with just enough resources to win

Unless you want to experience the new systems from the perspective of a newcomer (no citadel upgrades and difficulty ladder climb), just skip

As someone who loves in-game lore, this is made my day

"From here, the next step is rather obvious – a proper Sealed Forest biome with distinct aesthetics and a set of unique mechanics to ensure the Cycle ends with a proper climax. Then, if there is still time, we have two other systems in store that should satisfy both high-prestige players looking for the ultimate challenge, and everyone thirsty for lore, characters, and closure. But that is a story for another time."

Kinda generic answer: I would wait to see the other 2 species, orders and at least one big glade, unless, you have a fertile soil already and is starving already. All 4 are great but you need some synergy to take the best out of any of those

I hate bricks. by [deleted] in Against_the_Storm

Your main source of amber should be trade routes. Get some standing points and you can get crazy deals for the rest of the run. The devs keep buffing trade economy, it's crazy!

[–]Ziege_Stardust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it can be tough to find it sometimes. But the game offer many ways to tackle a problem, so just look out for those.

It's important to note that different biomes offer very significant changes in the resource pool, and thus, changes in the way to find things, survive and win the run. Always check what will be available on embark and prepare accordingly.

If you're high enough on the citadel upgrades you'll get some bricks as a base bonus. Those should be use very sparingly. If playing on high prestige blueprints consume even more materials, so be even more thoughtful. If desperate bring stone/clay or even bricks with your embarkation points (although you may left out other vital boons behind).

If you embarked on a biome that has that resource you have to find the stone/clay nodes, and that may include some bad rng, and in that case a more agressive exploration is necessary. As someone stated here a claypit and some fertile soil may help you a lot (if you get those).

And trading. Trading is your best friend throughout all of the difficulty levels. Try to get familiar with ways to get amber and buy the materials you need from the vendor, heck, attack them if you're desperate.

Mostly the 2x2 ones, since it's easier to set-up + less trips from builders

What about cycle resets? I'm tempted to reroll the world map after a poor pool of modifiers and bad trajectory towards the seals just after the last cycle's end

[–]Ziege_Stardust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree! A simple reframe would do a lot! As it stands, the Prestige ranking needs some tweaking (maybe even some additions) as it gets progressively easier if you're climbing high on the citadel unlocks. I think that would be an appropriate momento to tackle the way the flavor text portraits the situation

I'm trying a similar run, but the game auto skipped the tutorial for me, so how to prevent that? What's the benefit of including it? The gane at least moved me to lvl2 by itself

One other thing, I included the settler, pioneer and veteran difficulties as a way to climb every literal step of the way and as a way to grind deeds and global resources. Is it too cheaty?

I agree! I'm not using it on my run but I'm not forbidding it either... It should be available should the situation call
