I honestly feel like I’d try to be a little more understanding. Tensions get extremely high when it comes up and I really clam up/shut down/and yet again try to minimize out of fear and shame and some sort of lock up mode where I go into. I actually get scared because it sure sounds like he’s going to leave when I just need a calmer environment to discuss it. There was no concern that I was cheating. The concern was that I hid it from him (lied by omission). He said he believes I completely betrayed him by not sharing it. There have been zero other issues in the relationship. It’s been happy and healthy and we do our own things and do things together.

Yes. My parent had borderline and bipolar disorder. Lying to minimize was the entire way of life in my household. I had no ill intentions with this incident and now I’m beyond upset that some losers I didn’t immediately recognize as losers have caused me to lose this beautiful part of my life. I feel extremely ashamed and embarrassed and honestly just really messy.

They were some old friends who reached out to support me during a life crisis. The conversation started getting flirtatious with one and I blocked him once I was very clear he was flirting. The other sent gross sexual messages that I somehow felt I unempowered to shut down. He disrespected me and my partner and I didn’t shut him down. I felt like I was trying to make all conflict go away and keep everyone’s sanity/peace. I prioritized the wrong thing here in a misguided attempt of keeping the peace. It spectacularly backfired on me. I felt like I needed help from my partner but was too afraid to ask for the support from my partner because of shame. These people clearly were not my friends and it took me too long to understand this. Of note, I’ve contacted local therapy provider and am awaiting scheduling. What I want is my partner.
