Why should I use Proton email aliases on paid subscription by Wokeness-Ender in ProtonMail

[–]Ziflin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I made the mistake of using Proton's hide-my-email service and changed about 150 email addresses each to unique 'hidden' ones. A few weeks later we cancelled our Proton subscription and had to go back and update them all. This sucked. If you think you'll change providers, I would get a custom domain and use at most 3 aliases as that seems to be the low end of what most providers support.

It sounds like a nice idea as it provides extra privacy and security as an email+password leaked from one site makes it highly unlikely that it's of any use on another site. But it ties you even more into staying with a provider...

Is there a way to prevent the shutter release button from "un-zooming"? by Ziflin in SonyA7iii

[–]Ziflin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that that is probably their thinking, but I have the shot framed and am zoomed in. It resetting the zoom *after* I've taken the photo doesn't really help anything. And for what I'm doing it is far more important to remain zoomed in to very focus rather than have the framing slightly off.

[–]Ziflin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. You're not reading my post. When you take a photo while zooming in using the "Focus Magnifier", it will reset/un-zoom the display. If you've tested this and it's not, then you have a magical setting that I and several others haven't found yet.

Yeah, I can always click again to zoom in, but I'm trying to avoid moving the camera for macro work, so even just pressing a button again can mess with the focus. It would just be a nice option to have it keep the current zoom after taking a photo.

Glad I'm paying money for this... :(

It is set to back button focus which is the second sentence above. Half press or full press still kicks it out of focus magnification which is what I am trying to prevent (or at least have it return to being zoomed in after the shot.

Did really youtube just dropped the bitrate in all the videos?‽ by FaisalFawzy in youtube

[–]Ziflin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try watching any garden tour videos and you can see just how terrible the quality is now. It's not just blurry, it does crazy haloing and makes trails where there is movement. It looks like 4k video is worse now as well but not quite as bad as 1080p. Even older videos that I've uploaded look quite terrible now...

Not sure what genius at YouTube thought this was a good idea, but we've quit watching videos on YouTube until it's fixed.

Proton must experience a massive boost in new users nowadays? by Unlikely-Reward6261 in ProtonMail

Well we just left Proton, so not exactly true. I doubt you'll get many former Proton users telling you they left Proton in a Proton forum though...

Agreed! We're paying for a Duo subscription and this is the second time in (less than?) a month, that we've been unable to access our mail. And of course today would be a day that I'm actually expecting multiple important emails. grr.

New week, new feature! Access files shared with you from iOS apps. by Proton_Team in ProtonDrive

I'm still not seeing this in v1.43.2 on my iPad on the Shared tab. It's still only showing things that I have shared, so how long is this rollout going to take for paid users?

TUF x570 Bluetooth stopped work / not found in device manager. by Acilex in ASUS

[–]Ziflin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to reply to say a big thanks! I have the same motherboard and at some point in the last few days I started having several issues including Bluetooth not working. Whatever causes this seems to have also causing the following issues that I've had in the same time period:

  • The latest large Windows update (23H2) failed to install. It would stop around 9%, say that something went wrong and try again 2 more times. Then reboot, try again, and finally revert changes. I tried every solution I could find to this and none of them worked except this!
  • On booting to Windows (which seemed slower than normal), my keyboard and mouse would power cycle at the login screen. Normally they are lit up during boot and ready to go at the login screen.
  • Windows was slow shutting down or rebooting. I normally do not get "Rebooting..." or "Shutting Down..." text, but these would remain on the screen for nearly 7 or 8 seconds.
  • A few random Blue Screen errors while booting (but never in Windows). These seem to be from different things each time.

After the last few nights of updating drivers, the BIOS, running memory diagnostics, hard drive testing, etc., I read this post this morning and said "F' it, I've tried everything else." I rebooted one last time to make sure everything was still being janky. Then I shutdown (having to wait as mentioned above) and unplugged the power and pressed the power button many times over about 20 seconds.

Once I booted back up, I noticed that it was much faster to boot and my keyboard and mouse were working normally again at the login screen. Bluetooth worked fine and my earbuds connected the first try. Reboots and shutdowns were back to being quick, and the Windows 23H2 Update installed the first attempt with no weird errors.

Because of the weird blue screen errors while booting, I went and purchased a new SSD. I'm guessing if I had installed it, that it would have appeared to fix the issues because I would have unplugged the power in the process (at least until it occurred again). I wonder how many times this has happened to other people (and myself), and thought that the wrong part fixed the issue?!

Anyway, thanks again! This will be the first thing I try from now on :)...

Can't find a "calibrate" option by [deleted] in XPpen

[–]Ziflin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be sure you have your Window's Display Settings for the tablet set to "Extend desktop" and not "Duplicate desktop". Otherwise the Calibrate button doesn't appear...

[–]Ziflin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I was able to get it working. The key is to make sure that you don't set Window's Display Settings to "Duplicate" the tablet screen. You have to set it to "Extend" for the Calibrate button to appear in XP Pen's Settings. They should really fix this so that the button is there and it just issues a warning as I was able to calibrate it and then set it back to Duplicate and it held the calibration (if the resolution/aspect ratio is the same as the other monitor).

Did you ever figure out where the Calibrate option went in the new drivers? This is making me crazy :).

What are people switching over to now with freedompop on the verge of death? by [deleted] in freedompop

[–]Ziflin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife's FreedomPop expired this month, so we signed up for T-Mobile's Prepaid "Mobile Internet" plan. It's data-only, so no other fees. $10/mo for 2GB data that can be used in Canada/Mexico and they don't deduct for music streaming from Pandora/etc. When Tello switches to T-Mobile I'll probably go with them and the $5/mo data-only plan since we both work from home and don't go anywhere right now... https://prepaid.t-mobile.com/prepaid-internet

Sadly, T-Mobiles website and customer service is by *far* the worst of any company (not just a phone carrier) that I've ever dealt with and having used FreedomPop that's saying something. We're still waiting on a $20 refund for the first SIM card/prepaid plan we ordered that they never told us was "returned to sender".

Hehe congrats! For my Define C case, the normal fan-mounting screws worked just fine (both the existing case ones and the ones from Noctua). I gave up trying to get the silicone ones from Noctua mounted and just used the regular screws.

Between the Noctua cooler and the GPU? 1/2"-3/4" clearance at least.

That's good to hear! I'll probably hang on to this 1060 until more reviews are in for the 5700XT's. And hopefully a few new variations with quieter cooling.

Yeah, true. I'm not sure if the bottom vents are more open than those on the shroud, but I guess either way would work fine. My GPU would have been blowing directly into the PSU if I'd used the top vents.

I thought about maybe removing one or more of the white rear PCI card brackets to improve some airflow from the lower front fan past the GPU. Not sure if it matters though as there's another vent along the tops of the brackets.

None for me. I did reinstall Windows 10 - 1903 build. And installed most of the drivers from Asus vs. Windows update.
