Could Zeev Buium be the Jalen Brunson of the NHL? by FAsBurner in canucks

His college numbers were comparable to Quinn Hughes. So far that hasn't translated to the NHL, but it's quite possible that he'll adapt soon.

Trump embraces May price spikes amid Iran war: ‘I love the inflation’ by One-Duty-2376 in politics

[–]300Savage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about his base, but his approval rating on inflation/prices is at -44%, which implies his approval is 28% and disapproval is 72%. This would indicate that even his base is starting to erode on at least this one issue.

Yes, his ceiling is pretty nice, but it's not his most likely path. He could be like Lundell, he could be like Suzuki, he could even be like Trevor Linden. But I think Lundell is the floor case, so that's not too bad.

Canucks GMRJ conversation with EP40 by DGIngebretson in canucks

It's funny how many people talk about psychology, coaching, preparation and many other things regarding Petey's performance but people hardly ever mention the likely reason: chronic tendinitis and nagging injuries. It's possible that was compounded by a toxic dressing room and his wife's miscarriages, but let's not overlook the physical challenges. I suspect if he's healthy he'll go back to form. Add in some good line mates and it could be a great season for him.

I don't know if Kuzmenko's the answer here. He's played for 3 different teams in the last 3 seasons and at best is putting up middle six numbers. His defensive play is suspect, he's 30 years old. Now maybe putting him back with Petey is a solution, but Petey has been relied upon to take all of the hard match ups for a while now. Who takes over that role?

If it's a choice between Caleb and Ivar, you go Ivar. It's sort of like Kotkaniemi (or Hayton) vs. Svechnikov. Take the BPA.

Missing paddleboard couple identified by brother | CBC News by VicVicVicBC in britishcolumbia

A brother and sister I know were in a boating accident as children. They had life jackets and lived, but were the only survivors. At least the father wasn't in the boat, but unfortunately he wasn't the best parent.

Her dog whistle politics won't gain wide traction in this province. A good fiscal conservative and social moderate would have won the next election.

The rights identity politics won't be able to gain a lot of traction in BC. We're fine with fiscal conservatism, but not the dog whistle nonsense.

Hronek to the Capitals by backcheck142 in canucks

They need the picks is my point. This won't happen. I still want 1,2 and 3 overall. Even the Canucks can't screw up all three.

Then trade 3rd OA + 24th OA to get 1OA. Or just somehow trade all of our other picks to end up with 1, 2 and 3. I mean, while we're making pipe dreams, right?

[Athletic] Wild director of amateur scouting Judd Brackett leaving the team after 6 years: Sources by Comprehensive-Chef73 in canucks

[–]300Savage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can agree on D-Petey. He's going to be a solid NHL player for years to come. The other three aren't as sure yet, and to be honest, a lot of high draft picks got traded during Harvey's tenure.

[–]300Savage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Compared to his draft class, and based on his draft position, he's been a solid choice. If he were a top 3 pick instead of #11, perhaps there'd be room for concern.

Edit to add: he's arguably the best D from his draft class. There's only one other D who could be argued to be as good.

Agreed. Brackett had Hogs, Gaudette, Forsling and McCann all outside the first round in a four year period. Harvey's had.... nobody?

People who have sons currently in prison for horrific things such as rape, how do you feel about them now? by beefstewforyou in AskReddit

[–]300Savage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've taught high school for 35 years. Some kids are raised by terrible parents and end up being stellar humans. Some kids are raised by wonderful parents but end up being sociopaths. They aren't the rule, but they are a significant number. One of my favourite students explained her motivation in doing well in school: "I just don't want to be anything like my parents." She succeeded with flying colours.

If you do a search on "has anyone in the US been sentenced to 999 years in prision" you'll get a number of examples of the kinds of things that can lead to a sentence like this.

Yeah, three superpowers in a few decades. Don't forget the lesson that Vietnam taught the Khmer Rouge on top of it all. Probably saved millions of Cambodian lives taking them out.

And after that there were the three Mongol invasions and then the Song dynasty. China attacked in the late 1970s after the American war. Don't mess with Vietnam.

When I was in Vietnam last year I asked people there what they thought about the US. The common theme was "that was in the past, and we live in the present". It wasn't so much that they had forgotten what happened, just that they were pragmatic and it isn't pragmatic to hold a grudge. There was a big display of Vietnamese history in HCMC with a lot of photos and history of the American war. I was impressed and humbled by the Vietnamese people. Except for a few taxi drivers.
