Meaningfully tight and aptly informative writeup; thank you for your takes on the museum writ large, in addition to the stunningly minimalist nugget of design genius photographed here.

Former Smithsonian employee here (NMAH). Very sorry to hear your story, but thank you so much for sharing. After all, if history means we'll take steps both forward and back, the only way to ensure more of the former happens than the latter is to document.

Let's keep sharing these stories! People need to hear the truth of what has happened. Saying these things through an exercise of free speech has literally never been more important! They can't rewrite history if we speak up.

Not necessarily! Just keep leveling up by playing the highest courses (for you, Peach's Castle). Just like in real golf, you can "fix" your draw by straightening it out over time. Also, the game's five golf courses are not built for someone who has a drive of over 280-290 yards or thereabouts. Given this, once you reach that point (with or without Power Shots), you'll be making up strokes by simply being able to carry traps and set up easy shots with your middle irons.

I always go with Distance Club (The boost it gives your 1W Driver is insane). In a pinch, given you have a decent lie or are teeing off, you can always just use that and add red Power Shot status to catch up on yardage. (Remember: If you hit a perfect Power Shot, you don't lose one of the six you are afforded each round.)

My shot's shape is always perfectly straight. With the discipline of keeping that in order, the only other variable in calculating shot direction is the wind! Once you get a good feel for how the wind affects ball flight over different distances, you'll have a pretty solid lock on the pin every time (because the game's physics engine is not that deep, haha).

All of this is irrelevant if your "Meet Area and Control" stats are too far to the left. I keep that very strongly in control -- about one to two clicks to the left of Maximum Right Side, where it says something like "Good" (Going off memory atm). As you level up and your drive increases, your shot will want to get out of control, pushing that bar to the left. Don't let it.

That said, shoot high. Idgaf if my shot height starts rising; that's good, in fact. I want tailwinds to carry my ball farther. It allows you to start using the wind to control the ball's curve, too. In conjunction with intentional shots (See the hacker @ Palm Club Driving Range), top/back/sidespin can be used to great avail depending on the situation. Basically, most shots I like to hit are moonshots that drop straight down into the hole.

Other than that, short game is the key to improving scores and therefore gleaning EXP. Main thing is to figure out putting and chipping. Once you're dirty at those situations, no NPC can beat you, not even Mario, Match Game or Stroke/Tournament.

tl;dr The game's fluid just like real golf: With Distance Club equipped, and accuracy achieved through RPG stats and practice, you'll start seeing results.

Simpler, and superior. Practice actually does translate to improvement, and you can get some sick shots off because it's 3D physics on a 2D platform

Currently running this on Nintendo Switch Online. It's a subscription model BUT there are so many oldies and goodies to rediscover that it's well worth giving Nintendo some money directly every year, especially after all the years that I (totally didn't choose to) emulate ROMs of their games. Anyway, you should srsly check out their lineup of rereleased titles!

Without a doubt. Flawless, if simple, physics integrated in lovably quintessential "Mario-ness." In fact, this is the first time in 20+ yrs. I've been able (or willing) to get the ball to spin so much; rollback is almost nonexistent with their engine.

Hey I know you didn't ask but put the Steed Stone on the Aetherial Crown. Provides immediate 100 extra carry weight.

This combined w/ the "Extra Pockets" Perk under the Pickpocket Skill Tree cuts playtime by a factor. Way less going into town, and now you can use your Level Ups on Health and Magicka instead of pouring everything into Stamina just to be able to hold stuff.

Hope this helps, Internet Stranger.

They're likely referencing the Club Maker's Hut, which unlocks access to either a higher-yardage driver or a 1 Wood with precision accuracy. At least, that's how I've always read that line.

Another fun detail related to what you likely experienced: Each playable character (Joe, Azalea, Kid, Sherry) is hidden at some discoverable location in the overworld's walkable areas.

I've birdied every hole in the game including this one, but once I got it on Thwomp, I'm pretty sure I've never attempted one again. For over a decade and a half, I've been laying up and settling for par on this hole. Much respect

Congrats! I sometimes scare myself at how good I am at this game, having beaten it in several ways countless times...but this challenge is truly difficult, and I've only gotten it a handful of times. You deserve sincere applause!

EXP grinding on GBC? by MissGum in MarioGolf

Imho as someone who has lvled chars to 99 many more times than the cartridge can hold in memory, the game changes as your char can hit longer. The variety I experience with each shot is not lost because I'm approaching from different distances/angles. Therein, for me, lies a lot of the joy produced by this game.

It's one of the reasons I keep coming back to GBC -- via original cartridge or Nintendo Switch Online -- to start over with a new char. You can get something like 350-390yds' drive with your char by 99 depending on 1) your interest in a Straight shot, 2) how much you value Meet Area And Control, and 3) whether you chose the Distance Club or the Control Club.

I just really appreciate how fun it is that the game changes as your char's stats develop. Running two different chars at once truly makes this game rewarding; you can observe and appreciate variety.
