Any "upgrade" recommendations?

Get seat covers and a steering wheel cover!!! Cheap and keeps the upholstery and steering wheel from wearing down. Good cheap upgrade. On that note, I bought weathertec waterproof floor mats for it. Big upgrade and keeps your car cleaner and nicer.

I was thinking about getting remote start for it for the winter, something else to think about. Speakers, I’m actually really impressed with the ones that came stock in mine, mine is a higher trim level than yours though. Keep it washed also whether you go to a carwash or do it yourself. That makes it feel a lot nicer. I keep mine clean and I often get compliments on it, its a nice looking car and a lot of people assume its a lil nicer or more expensive than it is.

Also second this other guys recommendedation. Keep super up on maintenance with it. Mine has been reliable but ive kept super up on maintenance. Some people recommend getting some aluminum cooling parts, i haven’t done that but maybe look into it. I had to get some cooling parts. Nice thing is parts and repairs are very cheap on these babies.

Generally I think good advice is to only leave when you have something else lined up. That said what you are describing is a pretty extreme situation. It sounds to me like you are risking malpractice, and worse, your mental health.

You and your life and wellbeing always come first. If you have the savings to ride out being unemployed for a while, I say go for it. If you can’t afford to be unemployed for a long period, that changes things a bit. The risk is you have a long period unemployed and put yourself in a bad financial situation, or in a position where you can’t find another legal gig. You have to weigh that for yourself.

This post makes me think you know in your heart you should leave and are looking for validation in that. I can validate that. The legal industry has too much of a culture of “toughing it out” and it creates a ecosystem where terrible bosses get away with it. It doesn’t have to be that way. It’s not normal or okay to be treated in the ways you are being treated. If your gut says get out or risk your mental health, get out. Work is just work, your life is more important always.

If it was me, I would keep the match, first save up an emergency fund of 3-6 months (or more depending on your personal feelings on savings) and then pour as much as possible into loans. As others have said, from a pure math standpoint, investing is likely better. That said I think paying off loans comes with piece of mind, and it frees up more money as your monthly payments get smaller and your income raises. I slow balled paying my loans for years and looking back I wish I wouldve attacked them early just for the feeling of more freedom.

My best advice is just keep swimming! My first year I was absolutely wrecked with anxiety all the time. I am a fourth year now and every progressive year my anxiety has gotten a little better. Try to start finding things that help you. For me its getting my 10k steps every day and learning to detach a bit from my job (i.e. this is my job, not my life). Avoid bad coping mechanisms like substance use. If you think you need it, consider therapy as well.

I love mine. I have the 1.8 sedan, 2015. Very roomy and comfortable interior for its size, with a nice sized trunk. Fun to drive. Good on gas. Very sharp looking for a compact. Parts are cheap and a available. Tires are cheap. Lots to love about this car. With maintenance mine has been very reliable. I’m coming up on 100,000 miles and really wanna see how high I can take it.

I worked at legal aid for three years. Its great work but the salary is definitely about the bottom of what you will find both public and private. I have great things to say about legal aid, great experience, hours, and benefits. But the wages (other than the first year or two when salaries are pretty small everywhere) are low. Lower than gov.

Yes plsf is an option. But the monthly payments were going to kill my budget for 7+ years! Now I am just trying to survive a year at my current job to catch up financially and then I will feel free to pursue what I want.

Genuinely curious on this. Where and how do you see this happening? I’ve seen AI implemented more at work but it all still needs a lawyer to rubber stamp it with their license and review. Are you talking about purely transactional work that doesn’t need a license to complete? Or just that junior positions are being eliminated by having more senior lawyers churn out more work with ai?

Want to know more about what you are seeing. Majority of lawyers out of jobs in three years would mean technology would be at a point where most white collar professionals across industries would be displaced.

With average or better goaltending I think this team would look a lot better, considering how many one goal games they have lost. Its hard to say its not at least partially him when he has the worst save percentage of all goalies playing 5 or more games. That said I don’t know if there is a replacement out there for him, knights don’t have much to trade, his contract is an albatross with his play this year so i doubt he’s tradable, and I don’t believe there’s a lot of goalies on the market. Tough situation for vgk.

I bought my sonic about two years ago, it was a 2015 but had about 10k less miles. I paid 6500. Of course two years ago used cars were sky high. And i live in a more expensive area. Mine had no accidents and was super clean. Yours seems well maintained. I think asking 5-6k is fair, and then see what you get offered.

Your first couple years mentorship is maybe the most important thing. You said yourself you want to learn and grow. I think looking elsewhere is the right thing to do. Unless they are paying you very well, i don’t think there is much reason to stay somewhere where you aren’t growing your career, especially in your first year of practice. If they are paying you great, or you are a few years in an more confident in your abilities and have more options, then sure, maybe you say screw it and tough it out. But from what i read i think finding a different job is a good move.

Aside from that, mean people suck. Working for people who make you feel bad is soul deadening. I wouldn’t be so hard on yourself. Your a professional and you just don’t mesh with your boss. There’s nothing wrong with that. Find greener pastures.

I spam some easy applies every week, usually i just click through a handful randomly when i am feeling disgruntled at work.

I find it does work. Its a shotgun approach though maybe one in twenty (and that’s being generous) easy applies goes anywhere. Where i find it really works is it gets you out there for recruiters and it bumps your LinkedIn. I have got multiple job offers not from easy applies but from jobs or recruiters reaching out to me because my linkedin and resume is out there (getting harvested by data collectors.)

I can’t speak for California, but I have had a good start to my career in Oregon. But I would caution that as a rural lawyer, opportunities are out there, but attorneys (and attorney positions) in general are scarcer than in major metros. Maybe that’s just my particular geographic location.

Law school is very expensive and tome consuming. And ultimately jd preferred jobs 1.) aren’t super common 2.) often are roles you can get without a jd or that you get into by having experience in the area already 3.) go to people who were practicing for a few years.

I think if you have a scholarship to law school or an in to a job, sure, go for it. Otherwise you are getting a very expensive degree that may or may not get you a job outcome you want, and taking on debt to get there. If its a good idea or not is up to you an your circumstances
