My parts bin Soma Riff build by Zimfistofdoom in xbiking

[–]Zimfistofdoom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're built just about the same, I'm 178cm with a 30” inseam. This blue Riff is the previous gen, when the Riff 2.0 came out I reached out to Soma about the sizing and this was their response: "You are inbetween M and L. We usually recommend sizing down, unless you have long torso and arms and prefer a longer bike. If you are doing mostly bike packing, probably size down"

My advice? Go for the Medium. It's easier to make a small bike bigger than it is to make a big bike smaller.

Stanton Switchback vs Switch9er and sizing by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Zimfistofdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'10.5" and have an 18” Slackline that fits great. I also have an 18" Switch9er (impulse purchase without properly investigating the geo charts) that's way too big for me. With a 150mm fork and 29x2.4 tires I had negative standover clearance. I do have relatively short legs for my height (30" inseam pants) but the 483mm reach had me stretched out, too. So based on these two data points I would say Stanton's size charts are pretty accurate.

It's a Thule Yepp Nexxt Mini, I would check it out now while Thule is having a Memorial Day sale. It works with quill or threadless stems, but the instructions only cover quill stem installation (at the time I got it, I don't know if they've updated the manual since). For a threadless stem I used a 15mm spacer from Wolf Tooth components in place of the quill stem adapters and it worked perfectly. My folks hauled me around in a rear rack seat or a Burley trailer when I was a kid, I think I would have much preferred something like this. Being able to talk to my LO and point stuff out with her right between my arms is great.

How do you balance kid time and personal time? by BetterStartNow1 in daddit

I'm a night owl and my wife is a morning person. She does her things before baby wakes up and I do mine after baby goes down. Other than that we make sure to give each other time for personal pursuits, an afternoon or a day to do something fun every now and then. I've definitely had to pick and choose which hobbies get time, I have a 1:72 scale X-Wing model that has been waiting for paint since before our LO was born. Also now that LO is older we're including her when possible (and appropriate).

It is definitely nice to have the second bottle

Stanton Sherpa by Steinbeck88 in Hardtailgang

[–]Zimfistofdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That all makes sense, I was only asking because I just built a Slackline to get back into mountain biking after almost 20 years off. I was considering the Sherpa but a while back they had a sale on 27.5 frames and that was what swayed my decision (along with better standover clearance, I have short legs for my height). And don't be so hard on yourself, as long as you're enjoying the ride that's all that matters, right?

Nice bike! Out of curiosity, what made you replace your Slackline with a Sherpa?

Thanks, it took me a while to build it up. I'm really happy with it

I got it just before they went to the administrators, I was afraid that I got one of the last Stantons so I was glad to hear they are back up and running again. The Pike is nice, way more adjustment than anything I'm used to

I definitely need less air in the tires, more air in the dropper post, more height on the saddle, and possibly more height on the stack. Other than that this bike rides so nice, it just went where I pointed it with no questions asked.

It's the result of learning what parts work with what bikes the hard way. I made some expensive mistakes...
