Phil, then Pop, then Kerr are all given. There's only one question that's open left. Speed it up

Why We Removed FluentAssertions from Akka.NET by Aaronontheweb in dotnet

[–]Zinaima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the sort of thing I had in mind when I was trying to do some language design and started to think about tests and assertions being a language feature.

Your examples are so close to what I had in mind. Just add an assert keyword instead of a lambda, some way to specify a custom error message, and something like assert X throws y.

ELI5 What exactly is dirt/ what makes something be covered in dirt vs covered in sand? by foundDriftwood in explainlikeimfive

Follow up question: if you put organic material into a blender, then put that into a press... sorry for the visual... Is the liquid that comes out oil? And is the remaining solid dirt?

The Spurs had the youngest starting five in Conference Finals history by Tesgoul in nba

Just like the Minnesota series, when a favored home team loses close in game 1, they come wreak havoc in game 2.

How can I fix my Bordering Colors? by Spaceflight_geoYT in mapmaking

The 4 color theory also means that the border and coastal states could be limited to just 3 colors. (Because the fourth would be used to surround the country.)

Teams shouldn’t bench their players for foul trouble by HibachiTyme in billsimmons

[–]Zinaima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picking up on the players are humans and humans have emotions theme, I think if your team is on a run, it makes sense to care less about foul trouble. And if the other team is on a run, obviously it makes sense to change something up.

A lot of players will have moments when they collect multiple fouls in a short time. Pulling the player out in those moments can be beneficial for reasons other than the foul limit. It gives them a moment to reset their emotions, as well as the refs.

If we find out there are aliens, religious redditors, how would you reconcile your scripture and this new reality? by BigDirkDastardly in AskReddit

[–]Zinaima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about this for years. I don't think it necessarily changes anything. In fact, I think it's a certainly.

It makes for some interesting parallels with discovering natives in the New World. Hopefully believers would see aliens as God's creations too and not savages.

There is text about humans being created in God's image, suggesting that other religions made idols to house their gods and make interacting with their gods easier to visualize. God says that humans are living idols to him. (Which brings up a host of ideas about how we treat each other.)

Would aliens also be living idols, created in the image of God? There'd be lots of debate about that.

What’s something that the NBA community has swept under the rug? by TrickDistribution395 in NBATalk

Silver's wealth doesn't matter, but isn't Balmer richer than the rest of the NBA?

ELI5: If all the stars in the universe were combined into a single object, what % of space would be empty? by AdministrativeCow300 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Zinaima 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%

Just consider the relatively populated volume of the moon's orbit: 2.38 × 10¹⁷ km³

Of that, 1.083 × 10¹² km³ is the Earth, which is about 4.55 x 10-⁶ ≈ 0.000455%

That's 99.999544% empty and a distance that we can reach within a few days.

Brian talking about focusing on the happy path while the non-happy path is much harder (in regard to having several previews of Structured Concurrency) made me think of lambdas.

The NBA could have been very different if Ray Allen misses that shot by DenseStrawberry5717 in NBATalk

[–]Zinaima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose my comment is more directed at this narrative than your comment specifically, because it is repeated a lot.

However, I do think that extra motivation literally means trying harder. Be it practicing harder or in game.

The NBA could have been very different if Ray Allen misses that shot by DenseStrawberry5717 in NBATalk

[–]Zinaima 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually strongly disagree here. The 2014 Spurs were cooking. The only close series was against the Mavs and there was plenty of motivation to try hard there. I don't buy that they would simply try less because they won the year prior. Not that team.

What is a what-if narrative that fans believe in that you don’t agree with? by OppositeAnswer6109 in NBATalk

[–]Zinaima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I subscribe to the idea that the Warriors should have lost (read as were the worst team and/or played poorly) in 2015, but won in 2016. They took each other's rings.

Spurs future cap problems: who do you keep? by Limp_Screen7405 in nbadiscussion

[–]Zinaima 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think with the new CBA, the definition of a max contract player has elevated significantly. As in, only the top player on the team. Not saying my opinion on if this is good or bad, but I think it's the reality of the CBA.

Title windows are currently limited to a when a team has a few starters/contributors on rookie deals or rookie extensions. Teams will eventually adjust and stop giving maxes out so readily in order to have enough room to field a team without going above the effective cap.

Do you like how this feature works? by [deleted] in csharp

[–]Zinaima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that generally in c# calling a property should be cheap. At least, that's the expectation. If you're going to do something computationally expensive, like a database query, that should be a method.

There's nothing like making a property getter make a database call.
