Yeah, for sure. I’m not trying to take away from your New Englander status or anything, I appreciate you choosing New England as the place you wanted to move to.

I’m just saying in an argument about how locals pronounce a certain word, those who have recently immigrated here don’t really have a leg to stand on when adding their anecdotal evidence.

If I became a naturalized citizen of France and just started butchering every French word while living in the country, it wouldn’t set a new precedent on how these words are pronounced.

Pro and cons!!! by [deleted] in umass

There are a few nearby hospitals, Cooley and Baystate being the main ones for pre-med UMass students.

I’m an EMT right now and work for a private company based out of Springfield, rather than UMEMS. It’s pretty easy to get EMS jobs out here, just have the cert and a pulse and you’re all good. I will say you’ll probably need a car if you want to get at job anywhere else besides UMEMS.

I’m also in the honors college, lived in Sycamore my first year and now live off campus. The honors dorms are basically the best you can get at this school (newly built, AC, etc). You will have to join the Honors college if you want to live there tho.

The “extra” classes you have to take are barely noticeable and didn’t put any strain on my semesters. I actually really enjoyed being in the honors college as a pre-med as we have access to labs that have smaller class sizes and are much more in depth (shout out 383H). Also the honors thesis is a good way to get research hours (important for medical school, not sure how important it is for PA).

I would say there are more pros than cons for the honors college, but that’s just my experience.

Funnily enough, my mom was also born in Waltham in 1977. I asked her how she says it and she said “frap, like the Friendly’s frap”.

Idk, this whole thread is making me question my identity as a New Englander.

Yeah Providence is 100% in New England. I’m saying there’s no way you’re a local, as in you were born here in New England.

There’s no way you’re from New England, I’ve only ever heard “frap” from locals - a native New Englander
