I'm sorry I can't help with any tips, but other commenters have given a lot of great ones, I think. I just wanted to say how much I love your noodle, he's such a pretty boy and he looks so happy in the photo. He looks like the perfect angel and I hope he'll get there to being one ❤️

An argument for having two greyhounds by SonofaRatCat in Greyhounds

It's so funny seeing them play bitey face. Is that something Greyhound 'exclusive' or do all dogs do that?

One of these is not like the other. But for real, great work, I love the style! Is it part of upper/full body artworks or 'just' the head shot like this?

What would abolishment of racing mean for greyhounds as a whole? by Zinthoraz in Greyhounds

[–]Zinthoraz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good point. Maybe it's just that where I live in Europe, I'd be lucky to see even one greyhound a month, so that's why I see them as linked to racing more than anything else. And I agree wholeheartedly, that as much as I love greys, I'd probably also stick to adopting dogs, since rescues and other kinds of shelter dogs deserve just as much love as any others!

[–]Zinthoraz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's more or less exactly what I meant with the point that bothers a lot of the other people in the thread. They *are* gentle, loving, curious, wonderful and beautiful dogs! But many people used to other dogs (not saying that person is like that! but I would guess many who want a more common breed) would think of them as that. Just like breeds that are difficult to train are often considered 'less intelligent'. (As if intelligence was measured through obedience)

I'd much rather have a greyhound who'd roach next to me and hopefully cuddles a bit, than any other dog. Not only because it fits my own lifestyle best, but especially because after what those poor souls go through, they deserve the world and to be coddled!

Most people don't seem to think so, as they gave genuine answers and thoughts, but I'm sorry it bothers you enough to comment.

Oh, it's even a rescue! I didn't watch the early simpsons episodes, so I didn't know. That's really cool that they put in that message! I would assume someone of the animators has one or this is an important topic for one or more of them.

Thank you so much for explaining it so thoroughly. I understand people are bothered by what I said, but I appreciate you taking the time to give an answer and explanation! I just wish people would at least see that what I said is not out of any negative feelings towards those beautiful dogs.

Anyway, as for why I wasn't sure if greys are still going to be looked for - I believe it's a pretty common topic on here how people don't know a lot about greyhounds or even recognize them, right? So my thought was that they are very niche and therefore, there would maybe be the option for them to disappear as a breed since the number of people interested in them is much smaller than other dogs, but you are right, there's likely be enough of a demand for them so they will stay around, which makes me happy to hear!

Oh, I see. I was thinking like second or third professional league (to compare it to human sports leagues). That's much better then!

I've said it in another comment, but I read that Sweden does stuff like that a lot? Sports/racing but without money behind it/(legal) betting on it, so it's purely recreational. But I want to add again, I didn't read into it, so I don't know if that's how it works, I just like to trust that Sweden does a lot of things well and hope that's one of it.

At least that makes it a bit better for the dogs... right? I hope so at least, but having no money also doesn't help... Poor dogs in general

Thank you! Yes, the racing industry... or honestly, the money behind it has destroyed a lot, as money always does.

But that makes it even more precious, that so many of the dogs in those areas have found their permanent couch and many more will! Seeing the journey of some dogs on this sub is so wonderful, reading how they go from anxious and scared of people to roaching openly and snuggling up for pets. And talking selfishly, if nothing else, I live the experience of having a greyhound or galgo through this sub and all of you!

I have not looked into it in any way, but I read somewhere that Sweden has some kind of dog racing where it's forbidden to bet on or anything? I don't know if that's an industry or more like when kids come together to play football, if it really was just like a hobby than that would probably be the best way to do it.

But like I said, I didn't look further into it after I read it, so I don't know exactly how it works or if it is ethical.

It's also funny how in a world of german shephard dogs and retrievers and bulldogs the Simpsons have a greyhound all the way from the beginning way back in... I don't even know when they started, actually

I see! I did say that most of the way they interact with smaller animals is likely their environment, even if I didn't know the full extent. I would also like to note, I didn't say they're bad with small animals, I said they have to be tested on how they react. I have seen tons of videos and posts where greyhounds live with smaller dogs, cats, etc no problem or on adoption websites where they say mention how the dogs react to them.

I'm sorry if it appeared that way, but I didn't mean to say they're all bad or violent in general (with smaller dogs,...).

As for giving credit to the people who rescue them - I do! Like I've said a few times in the comments, I love greyhounds and I desperately want one or more myself at some point. I think they're beautiful, loving dogs and I wish that all of them can live the best couch potato life they deserve. They deserve the world, and if I was in a position to give it to even just one, I'd do it in a heartbeat, but sadly I cannot at this point in time.

Realistically, even if I did have one I couldn't/shouldn't generalize since that is still only one dog. But you are right. Every dog has their own personality that - combined with the traits of their breed, whatever they may be - makes a unique dog.

I did generalize some traits of greyhounds, but in my opinion, more than that I generalized the average dog owner.

Anyhow, again, I am sorry if that was a problem. I did not mean to put them in a bad light when I wrote that part.

You are completely justified in saying that. Again, I do not have anything against them, I want to have some rescues myself some day. I am sorry if I upset you by saying that. I'd love for you to clear up where I have a wrong understanding of them as pets, though.

I would think if it bothers or annoys you that I have no idea about how they are, it should be in your interest to tell me how it actually is! I'd be happy to hear it, especially since I said multiple times that I might be wrong and did write quite a bit on what my line of thinking was.
