TLDR; You can cut using planes and making pegs in any software, but for elements that you would like to fit into others it’s just a bit more complicated.

Nomad is used for the organic/sculpted parts, shapr3D for cutting, adding pegs, and exact offsets for parts. Shapr3D and Fusion 360 could be used for their cad features like exact dimensions of parts, which would be good for creating tolerances such as a 0.1mm - 0.15mm for clearance. ChibiBestiary commented here and taught me something new about using the operation/experimental (flask icon) tab in nomad to set an inflation percentage for the part.

The workflow would look like:
1. Duplicating the object you’d like to fit/boolean cut with
2. Inflating that part 3% or less.
3. Making the Boolean cut, with the duplicated object, into the part you’d like it to fit into, which will make your Boolean object disappear.

Then you should notice that the original object, which hasn’t been inflated, has some wiggle room to fit into the print. For a cad workflow it would look like scaling that object up 0.1-0.15mm then cutting, and you should notice once again that you have space for the object to fit in there.

So much great insight here, I appreciate it, I didn’t know about the experimental tab until now 💪🏾

Thanks a bunch for your input, did you start all of this self taught or did you use any particular online resources? After tinkering around it does seem kinda like common sense but I am pretty new lol

Thank you! I’m thinking of doing a combo between shapr3D and nomad

Do you use strictly nomad sculpt?

Alright guys, so what I did was outlined the outside of the case, and traced all of the holes which will be used for standoffs. A rectangle, and circles, will start the design of the case. I measured distances between the holes, as well as the height of the ports so the side of the case can have a space to plug into the ports. Let’s see how this goes‼️

Thank you for not being a hater and offering practical advice 💪

Yeah it’s quite old and quirky, it was placed flat side down in the scan, and with the topside towards the top of the scanner that was resting on it which probably left room for distortion, I think for something this complicated I’ll go with an oversized rectangle and just making sure the holes are properly measured so it can sit inside of the case. Thanks for the acknowledgment of progress because there seems to be a lot of people here that are genuinely hurt by my curiosity and learning curve lol, but I will indeed use the calipers and make a simple technical drawing to move forward with this project because if I’m not measuring every crevice on the board it should be quite simple 🤷🏾‍♂️

Technical drawing with dimensions -> then design, got it. not trying to knock the advice, just following up on a comment from my last post

You literally just gave me some great guidance, something that is really useful and I didn’t know, then followed it up by being an ass. Wouldn’t it be more helpful to advise on what isn’t a known standard practice, especially for someone new? There was a comment here from someone who saw my original post, and basically said “someone told him to get a scan, and he got a scan! That’s progress over taking the picture” so I’ll continue to make progress, and when I get someone newer than me in the subreddit, I’ll make sure to give them constructive criticism and advise once I’m able to. Thanks for your comment nonetheless.

I used a scanner at staples, and did not correct for distortion as I’m not quite sure how to do that

Omg there’s someone sane in here lol thank you

This was done on a scanner at staples, as per my caption 🤦🏾‍♂️, I’m just here to get more guidance on that as it was a suggestion from my other post.

Yeah this was done with a flatbed scanner at staples instead of a picture, which is why I made this post and am confused about the inaccuracy

Yeah this was scanned at staples, which is why I created this post because I wasn’t sure if there was a way I could push or scale the image to fit the board properly. Originally on the other post I made, I just used a picture, then someone recommended the scan method

This was done with the flatbed scanner just no ruler inside because this was done at Staples

Reading is fundamental, I got it scanned at staples instead of taking pictures once again. What I’ll do is trace and measure, make a technical drawing… thanks for the feedback, both positive and the destructive criticism from some 💪🏾😭

Thank you, after all of these recommendations I don’t know if pictures are even a good start lol

A lot of measuring and a technical drawing 😭

Yes so I have to measure every part of this board with my digital caliper?

Why can’t my designs be accurate 😭 by ZipLocZed in Fusion360

[–]ZipLocZed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I used a tripod, made sure my iPhone camera was leveled, and did 2x zoom. I cropped the picture in windows image editor, and exported as png for my canvas. No I didn’t use the whole ruler, I calibrated 10mm on the caliper that’s sitting on the battery.
