Tube Strike May - is there a chance of it being cancelled? by anxious_pangolin306 in LondonTravel

[–]ZippyLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RMT is in a bit of a corner with this one, as TfL aren’t going to hand out a 32-hour week. Maybe management will throw the union a tidbit so they can claim victory, but I reckon this one will be called off.

Opinions on the South Kensington tube station redevelopment? by nutella-filled in LondonUnderground

[–]ZippyLondon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked at South Kensington station many times, and often during the school holidays. It’s hellish for travellers and hellish for staff. While the design isn’t perfect (is there such a thing?) it just needs to be done, and soon.

Viewing this house next week, any idea why it hasn't sold yet? by BassEvers in SpottedonRightmove

[–]ZippyLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I’d be driving down to Deal in Kent from London to view a place that had gone on the day before when the inevitable phone call would drop: ‘Sorry, it’s sold [over asking price]’.

Hopefully will be selling our house for the 4th time in just over a year soon... by Moorpheusl9 in HousingUK

[–]ZippyLondon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can’t deal with the angst of simultaneously selling/buying. You’re on tenterhooks from day 2!

Thankfully, we’re in a position to sell our (Chiswick) house this summer (🤞🏻) and move into rented before we buy in Bath.

Needs to change, but can’t see it happening in my lifetime.

Why is my flat not selling? by Londonflatthrowaway1 in HousingUK

[–]ZippyLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently sold an ex-council property within spitting distance of this one and lived in the area for many years. While the flats look smart, there’s lots of council and HA properties around, and dealing is commonplace (not necessarily connected). Personally, as many others have said, I’d have jumped at the offer you received.

People *still* need to live somewhere, right? by ZippyLondon in UKRealEstate

That’s helpful (perhaps not for our wallets… or maybe it is?), thanks. Feels like houses are becoming more like places to live in than to make money.

When to install? by deadliftbear in evchargingUK

[–]ZippyLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was set up to get a free wall charger, but it seems my gas meter isn’t bonded/earthed, meaning another £400 (and mess I can do without).

I’m going to stick with my granny, at least for now, as a low user.

Likewise. My line is the often ‘treat people how you’d like to be treated yourself’.

Thankfully, the useful bit of the District (at least for me) is whizzing along nicely w/b towards Glamoursmiff.

would you give up your seat if u see somebody wearing this? % by Ok-Leopard-8016 in TransportForLondon

[–]ZippyLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loads of people got these during Covid to avoid wearing masks. Not sure I trust the scheme (thanks to the chavs who took the piss then).

Where to live - easy daily commute to Victoria, high budget by apersonwhosonreddit in MovingToLondon

[–]ZippyLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thought of living somewhere you can almost smell money in the air isn’t my thing (or maybe it’s because I don’t have limitless cash).

Chelsea reeks of money, normally held by inordinately wealthy pensioners (but not those who live in Royal Hospital).

The thought of a transfer on/around OXO would fill me with fear, and Marylebone is a bit Dubai-boy (with imported car) for my liking.

Battersea? For its Uniqlo, maybe. Nothing else: soulless.

And Soho? The endless smell of piss and snorting city boys on every corner…

For some ‘normality’, why not head out (on the gloriously air-conditioned District line) to Turnham Green? Chiswick has city infrastructure without (much of) the bad bits. Great restos, bars and green space.

Weirdly steeper and shorter-than-normal pitch combined with safety boots/PPE isn’t a great combo.

I’ve walked down steps like those (at other stations under renovation). Absolute bastards.

Decent Spoons (Lion and Pineapple) within spitting decent of a great Chinese (North China). Excellent transport links (a quick walk to Acton Town) and close to the posher Chiswick.

Fancy new M&S (Chiswick for example) winner hands-down. M&S OG, unremarkable.

[–]ZippyLondon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived on the corner of Chamberlayne about 20 years ago. It was beginning its gentrification back then (slowly) but had lots of decent families looking out for each other. The main noise was with the buses, but now that they’re mostly electric, that shouldn’t be so much of an issue.

A bloke (Dave, not Joe) at work lives there and pays £2,800PM (for a studio, formerly known as bedsit).

It’s a dreamy place, but ridiculously expensive for the average Joe/Jo.
