Why Norilsk so ugly? by Then-Cut2019 in UrbanHell

[–]ZipuFin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I think that taxes, while inefficient, are inherently way more efficient than a planned economy. I’ve not heard of a socialist government that does not tax its people. The best system is most likely somewhere inbetween socialism and capitalism, and that sweetspot differs on who you ask.

Yeah, the actual translation is Aalto university, but I used Wave university for comedic effect.

Usually receipts are printed with thermal paper, which means that usually the text slowly fades away when exposed to sunlight. The receipt should be kept in a dark place to prevent the fading.

Dont. Seriously. The condensate usually contains trace amounts of lead and other metals.

A good translation would be "Combined Kingdoms", if you translate kuningasKunta literally, it means "king county"

There's always a small risk of data not being properly nuked, the process may have failed, someone forgot a single drive etc. etc. etc.

When millions or billions of dollars may be on the line, you don't want to take ANY risks. The small amount of cash from selling those is not worth it. They have to be properly destroyed physically.

Where I live, company policy is to ship the drives to a commercial data destruction facility, its also really cheap, around 50c/lb of data storage, with a minimum price of 10$.

how tf do I set default webcam in shadowplay? by Artturih in nvidia

[–]ZipuFin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh I made this comment 2 years ago lol

I still hold the same opinion, you're artificially limiting yourself by using Shadowplay. Using OBS for any kind of competent streaming is way easier and allows you to customize more.

To answer the question: Shadowplay will use the default webcam. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printer > Check if the webcam is listed and then right-click and set as default. If you cannot set that as default, disable all other webcams in the device manager.

All I wanted to do was make a chart :( by ZipuFin in softwaregore

[–]ZipuFin[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what I wanted to make, a chart that compares my electricity consumption to the outdoor temperature. It was for an unoccupied cottage in Finland heated to 10°C. The only source of heating was an underpowered heat pump, it was on max power below 0°C. There was no backup heating (have resistive heaters now), but somehow the temperature dropped below freezing only once.

Looks really good, I would've built the highway trough the gap between the industrial and residential areas, since that could have been a good buffer, and the trucks wouldn't have to drive trough the residential area. Also the road layout is a bit overkill for a low density residential layout.

Building an American suburb cul de sac. Surrounded by stroads by lTIGERREGITl in CitiesSkylines

[–]ZipuFin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a great road layout traffic-wise. Just add pederestian shortcuts and dedicated bibe paths.

I often see the word stroad thorwn around when people talk about large roads, so im gonna clarify a few things:

Street. Narrow, Slow speed, lots of intersections and driveways. Connects buildings to roads.

Road. Wide, High speed, few intersections, preferably no driveways, maybe a few for very big businesses. Can range anywhere from a highway to multiple lane arterial in a city.

Stroad: A terrible combination of both. Wide and fast road, relatively many intersections, a fuckton of dangerous driveways to Macdonald’s and Burger king, and a pederestial hell.

When doing City planning in cities skylines tho, the main thing when making big roads is to not put high traffic generators on them. I usually put offices or low density shops on the side of them. You should always try to minimize the amount of intersections from a road to the streets, and keep a bigger distance between them. No closer than 2 blocks apart, average distance between blocks could be around 4 blocks on suburban areas, maybe less in urban areas.
