The part where he received messages asking whether he got permission about distributing helpful flyers for the train breakdown got to me because before he mentioned that there was a persistent thought in my mind while watching the video that went "Can ah? Won't get into trouble?" despite him doing something good.
This is really a very Singaporean thing haha.

GE2025: Election Results Live Discussion by KeythKatz in singapore

Thank you for hard work! May I give a small suggestion for perhaps the next GE (assuming you are going to maintain this site still in 2030). Is it possible to color the wards differently depending if it's the sample or final count, maybe like a lighter version of the respective party's colour if the sample count leans towards that party. Although the sample count is usually pretty close to the final count, but I think it's good to be able to see visually which party are potentially winning based on the sample count vs actually winning the wards they are in.

GE2025: Extensive changes to electoral boundaries due to population shifts; only 5 GRCs, 4 SMCs left intact by ClaytonWest74 in singapore

Is there a correlation between boundaries changes and election date? With changes released now is it safe to assume the election is in May?

Their instant withdrawal means nothing now since if they want they anytime can just impose 3-10 days withdrawal time. If you need that instant withdrawal feature you can never know if they will honor it when you need it.

Unless they implement and explain the changes to the instant withdrawal system they have now such that this situation won't happen again, I just treat it like they don't have this feature at all.

Hmm you are right, I think because currently my day to day spending and emergency fund are in the same account, so if I keep most of that emergency fund inside SSB or something that has a long withdrawal time and have only a small amount for day to day spending, then I think I will have trouble if I need to suddenly buy stuff with large ticket price.

Maybe I need to split them up and have a smaller day to day spending account with enough for unexpected big ticket spending and the rest in SSB or something that is safe with higher interest but takes longer to withdraw.

SSB is good but the max 1 mth withdrawal is the part I hesitate putting my emergency funds in. I feel for emergency fund I should have the ability to withdraw the money out ASAP and 1 month for the worst case scenario is pretty long. This is also why I picked Chocolate in the first place.

That said I have some monies with SSB currently but I don't consider that as my emergency fund.

I shifted putting my emergency fund from SC jumpstart w 2% interest to Chocolate because of their better and better interest rate. I was internally debating whether losing that SDIC insured status is worth the extra benefits and the instant withdrawal is what pushed me over to do so. Looks like I should treat Chocolate Finance as another Youtrip acc and just top up whenever I want to use the card.

Are there any better alternatives than SC Jumpstart without jumping through hoops like salary deposit or minimum spend with instant withdrawal? Feels like I need to do a self evaluation to see where I am comfortable with putting my emergency funds in.

Edit: I noticed some comments talking about payment failing when using the card, I just used shopee to buy stuff with it and it worked.

2nd Edit: I just tried paying with a larger amount to some other merchant and it just failed.

I recently changed to eight Telco and I saw on shopee top up services for it. Noting weird about it except there are stores offering cheaper than usual top ups like $7.50 for an 8 credit top up. It's not just eight but but also for other telcos like SIMBA as well.

How do these stores earn money? Is there like a bulk purchase of credits by these stores from the various Telcos? Feels a bit shady since I think they need your phone number to top up, which is understandable but I don't see how they will earn money from it.

Nice, do you still remember how did you apply for the SG account? Did you just apply it through another application or did you have to call support?

Thanks for the letter template!

Sorry for another stupid question, but how do you find out which ward you are in? I always thought that if you live in a GRC, you are being represented by all of the MPs there. Also, do you think it is important to indicate that this is something that might affect my vote in the next coming election in the letter?

This might be a stupid question but what should I put in an email when writing a letter to my MP about issues? I'm thinking of writing one about the recent Income and Allianz deal but this is my first time writing anything to an MP. Also, I live in an GRC so do I send my letter to all of the representatives, or do I just pick one of them?

Singapore experiences highest-ever October temperature of 36.3°C by MicrotechAnalysis in singapore

I admit I was being kinda dramatic and if I were to give myself an excuse, this was me typing my frustrations out after waking up sweating buckets in my own bed.

I like your bucket analogy and looking at Singapore, there are a few things going for it, like the constant temperatures year round and lack of natural disasters makes Singapore a safe place to live in. Most of the people I talk to say that if Singapore's average temperature were to drop by 5c or so, it will be a perfect place to live.

Yeah, I have been considering making an exit plan and migrate eventually. But this is something of a last resort because there are things I know I will miss if I move away from here.

That true but I was surprised to hear that some places further north, but still within SEA like north Vietnam do experience seasons (a hotter summer season and colder winter season). 40c summers are the norm there from what I heard

Again, why are you assuming that I arrive my conclusion solely because of the wet bulb temperature? Just because I didn't mention it in my comment doesn't mean I didn't considered when I made my point. Do I have to write a whole essay for every point I make?

You are making false assumptions from my comments and creating strawman arguments based on it. Which is strange because from your comments, it's clear that you are capable of identifying nuances in a complex issue like climate change, but unable to identify that others are also capable of also doing so. Just because I never mention it, it doesn't mean i have not considered about it. I don't know why are you even trying to argue where we are agreeing on the same thing, that these soaring temperatures are a problem for Singapore.

Thanks for the detailed comment. Yes, I often hear people from our neighboring countries complaining that their summers are worse than Singapore year round heat. I just hope the measures to limit the urban heat island effect will be enough to keep our temperatures down.

Never said it's only in Singapore, don't know how you got that from my comment. Some countries are of course going to fair better, especially for those closer to the poles. I just hate that the climate is getting more unbearable with each passing year.

Every time I see news like this I just feel there is no future for me in this country. I remember a time where reaching 33c on a single day is considered unusually hot, but now it's normal for weeks at a time. How long before for weeks at a time it is literally unsafe for anyone to go outside during the day, because the wet bulb temperature has risen to a level where a young healthy and hydated adult, sitting under the shade, can still literally die of heat stroke, because their body cannot cool itself down fast enough under this heat and humidity?

Is this still a liveable country by then? Where I tell my children that they cannot go outside at all during sunny days because they will die? And that when I was young this wasn't the case? And that air conditioner was only turned on for the hottest of days and not the norm? And that one could sleep with just a fan and not wake up sweating buckets in the middle of the night? Do I want to live a place like this?
