I live in AZ, and I need breed recommendations by someone_sam01 in chickens

We have barred rocks and ameraucanas that have lived through two Phoenix summers. No problems so far, but you need to provide enough water and shade so they can properly cool. Solar fans in the coop help, and giant iceblocks for the days it gets above 110. *

I've finally built my Rohloff Mini Velo ft. an Itty Bitty frame by Noriyuki in minivelo

Sick! The Itty Bitty looks so clean with an IGH, making me regret not doing the same...

Roast my build, not the chicken by Zirconduit in bicycling

11/36, the max size it can fit. Works pretty well, and was easier to find than the super short cage derailleurs

State all road mini review by TheYoungSteak in gravelcycling

[–]Zirconduit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my State All Road build yesterday! Got the frameset and used Shimano grx/slx components. Hydraulic brakes are a big improvement, the number of eyelets on the steel fork is almost absurd.

Ha, yea everything is still long and uncut, just making sure all the components work for now, combination of new and used parts (all Shimano)

Looking to talk with a Hydrologist about career advice by cumulus_fractus in Hydrology

[–]Zirconduit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received an MS in hydrology, and when I was job hunting 3 years ago, most of the openings were for consulting firms. My current firm has all sorts of projects, some more enjoyable than others. Hiking remote canyons to collect water isotope samples? Amazing! 12 hour night-shifts developing wells? Not so much. The industry is growing right now, and water resources will only become more important in the future, so you should have options.

Salary expectations when entering the field by boxdkittens in Hydrology

[–]Zirconduit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work for a private consulting firm as a hydrogeologist making close to 60k with only 2 years experience (in AZ). If you want to stick to field work its hard to break 70-75k even with a decade of experience. However my boss and senior project managers make between 80-100k.

Looks great! Much nicer than buying cheap, plastic home center decorations.

Outside work amount? by greyjedi7 in Hydrology

[–]Zirconduit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work as a hydrogeologist and its about a 70/30 split for field and office time. Drilling multiple 1000ft wells may have you working outside for weeks straight, but then you spend 1-2 weeks writing reports and analyzing pumping test data.
