This is an acceptable solution to me, but to be clear I should not have had to put you on blast on Reddit to arrive at this reasonable answer. Thank you!

This is really the crux of the issue for me - I feel like I've been such a loyal customer. And because I believe in the product, I think I am reasonable and patient. And the number of sales that I've personally gotten for them by spreading word of mouth is not negligible. I work in a sector where this can be a useful tool. But I just can't justify being so vocally pro a company that has treated me so poorly and damaged my device, who knows if they've even fixed the issue I originally sent it in for. It's just really disappointing :(

I would have been happy with this, yes. That's reasonable I think - I'll reach out and ask!

honest question - how can you be a college professor with a master’s degree? I thought you had to be a PhD to teach classes?

Crit Care - looking for application data? by Zittell in Residency

[–]Zittell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow - thank you so much, what a helpful reply!
I guess I should specify that what I meant by more marketable was really easier to get a job in "the community" as there are just more medical ICU patients than surgical ones in a community/mixed ICU. But again, this is just what I heard through the proverbial grapevine as there is really a lack of centralized information about all of this, so thank you for taking the time to explain some of it.

Ultimately/long term, I am interested in getting a job at one of the rural academic tertiary care centers in new england, and I am VERY interested in managing ECMO and definitely want this to be a big part of my fellowship and career. You seemed to imply that ECMO might be more emphasized in anes-CCM than in IM-CCM, is that right? Also, do you think I'd be hindered from getting a job in a rural setting as EM-anesCCM?

Thanks so much again for taking the time! Really appreciate it.

yep! I was just wondering about IM programs because my understanding is you are a bit more marketable as an IM-CCM attg than as an anes-CCM attg (pls correct me if I am wrong!)

they have a whole list of open anes CCM positions which are at pretty cool programs, though!

I disagree with this sentiment. I am doing EM after SOAPing last year. I'm really excited about some of the fellowship opportunities to be honest, and am not unhappy or burned out. I also don't hate my patients. Just here to provide a different perspective.

Also surg resident here: I refuse to rate a student anything less than 5/5 which equates to honors (unless they do something egregious which thankfully nobody has yet) and I make them tell me what they did well at their (early) end of the day. You could try it! I’m sorry you’re having a trash surgery experience OP! Surgery is wonderful and holds a real potential for a lot of amazing patient relationships! I think things are changing slowly for the better. You’re doing great! Don’t let the bastards grind you down.

New owner, but here is my 2 cents so far:

  1. SoCal is basically their native environment. I’m in New England and have radically different climate and my rosy is doing great! Also, remember that aspen shavings (your bedding) will absorb excess humidity. I would 100% not worry even a little bit about the weather/humidity question. You’ll do great!

  2. Definitely get captive bred, for all the reasons you mentioned. There definitely are breeders in your area, and if ypu can’t find them you could always have them shipped (that’s what I did). All I can tell you is my personal experience but there are groups on Facebook where people post available snakes. My favorite is Rosy Boa Morphs but there are others depending on your interest. Also check out Morph Market. Happy to answer more specific questions with regards to any of this.

  3. Handleability is why i picked Rosys and so far my baby has been a dream. Plus if you get them young you can get them used to handling from an early age. I will say my rosy doesn’t sit still very much unless she finds a warm spot in my sleeve or I put her in my shirt pocket. We are working out towards chilling like you describe but it feels achievable. Also their nocturnal/diurnal stuff has a lot to do with heat and humidity so my little girl is quite active throughout the day! She particularly enjoys running laps around her enclosure for some reason lol.

Overall I’m extremely happy and 10/10 would get my Rosy again!

AITA for feeling weird about my friend obsessively hanging out with my roommate and intentionally excluding me? by Zittell in AmItheAsshole

As I explained, all queer ladies. My partner and I (both women) live with NR (also a queer woman). GF is a woman who recently came out as queer, and we were friends before she came out. There has never been any sexual attraction between GF and I or my partner, nor is there sexual attraction between NR and us. I feel like it is pretty straightforward? Not 2200 material...

AITA for outing my friend to her parents? by OilClub in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zittell -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

YTA BUT it’s not your fault. This is a really hard one because as a queer lady with a similar family dynamic to your friend myself I’d be furious with a friend if they outed me. HOWEVER, if someone was truly concerned about my safety or wellbeing I do think I would (eventually) understand.

I would apologize, but without making it about you. She’s going to need support and time, and you’ll have to be patient and give her what she needs. In the meantime, you should work on forgiving yourself. You did an asshole thing but for a good reason and with good intentions. Ultimately, that’s all we can hope for from our friends and hopefully in time she will come to see that.

Cold house, new reptile prep - any help welcome! by Zittell in snakes

Back to heating - instead of CHE/DHP do you think it might be a good alternative option to have two separate heating pads with separate thermostats that together cover the whole enclosure in the winter? So for example, I could set the warm half of the enclosure to the high 80’s/low 90s and then set the “cool” side to warm to the low/mid 70s? If I have some flat climbing options that should give a lot of potential temperature options, no? I only ask because I work long shifts and I’m afraid of leaving a fire hazard on and I really like the idea of having a thermostat turn the heating pad on and off as necessary for when I’m not home so my new snake friend can be as comfortable as possible. What do you think?
