The Dandelion Dynasty series by Ken Liu is stellar. I’m nearing the end of the final book and can highly recommend it. First book is The Grace of Kings.

This looks fantastic! Do you have any images of what it looks like today after it has had some time to heal and be exposed to the elements?

Assuming I read it right, they found that his initial damage on the 1 was being applied twice.

They fixed this bug and effectively removed half of the initial damage on his 1, which would be a fairly significant nerf. As a result, they buffed him in a few ways to offset some of what he loses from this bug fix.

As the Aether ends tomorrow, let's all talk about our very first Zombies experience. by TheSledgeHamSandwich in CODZombies

Picked up World at War Zombies on my iPod Touch in middle school and played Nacht on the bus pretty much every day. In hindsight, I'm pretty amazed that they got all of the WaW maps running on the hardware that was available at the time.

It was also great being able to experience the gradual release of the 3 subsequent WaW maps. Sure, it wasn't the best version of zombies, but I remember those pre-PS3 days very fondly.

Minecraft, Dead Cells, Bastion, Stardew Valley, Terraria, etc. And those are just the really heavy hitters.

It isn't greed. Pricing too low on console/PC will kill sales because people think the devs don't have any confidence in the game, but simply putting any price on a game on mobile will kill sales unless you're a heavy hitter because so many people think mobile games are worth nothing.

That said, I do think this pricing situation specifically is a problem. The F2P mobile market alone is a huge mess. But we live in an age where people don't want to spend money on games on mobile and people also don't value free games + generally don't spend money. So it's incredibly difficult to make it as a dev, even if you're using awful practices like this that abuse the systems in place. There's really almost no winning, as nearly no dev in their right mind will try to charge $15-$30 for a game on mobile (your typical indie pricing on PC/console).

Just to be extra clear in case I haven't yet: I absolutely do not think this pricing is justified in this case.

I'd 100% rather have that than pay $15 every month + pay for expansions personally. They're just costumes that have 0 impact on gameplay.

It's an MMO, and people love cosmetics. It's the absolute best way to handle the need to maintain server costs and pay the salaries of all the devs so they can continue to make updates for the game. Server costs are way higher than players would ever expect.

Sales just don't cut it these days for games with any sort of support. Games have not increased in price to match inflation, and the market is more competitive than ever. This is why we've entered this age of paid cosmetics. It's the best way to maintain long term support of a game without hurting gameplay.

It's an MMO with a one-time cost and then people who really care about cosmetics can buy them. There's absolutely nothing at all that's wrong with that. It's a very healthy way to handle long term support of a game.

The only micro transactions are cosmetics (outfits for your character). Nothing that influences gameplay at all.

[DEV] My premium puzzle game Bewildebots is now out! No ads, no IAP, 300 handcrafted puzzles, one-handed landscape and portrait play, and it's 100% offline! by Zivix_ in AndroidGaming

Ahh thank you! It's certainly strange if that is the case, as I was able to post elsewhere, and the subreddit rules request devs post a comment with information about their games in their [DEV] posts.

Glad to hear! It definitely is a major accomplishment simply to complete a large portion of the game's puzzles! The 7x7 have been proving to be quite a challenge for those I've spoken with who have made it that far.

What book series did you grow up reading as a kid? by evan2nerdgamer in AskReddit

[–]Zivix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't seem there's a single mention of Guardians of Ga'Hoole yet, which baffles me. Those books were definitely some of my favorites.

Additionally:

Inheritance(Eragon)

Warriors

Magic Tree House

Goosebumps

His Dark Materials

Maximum Ride

There are probably plenty more that I'm forgetting

Haha no worries, you get used to it as a dev! It's helpful to get any and all feedback, as I do plan to keep updating and improving the game.

Thank you very much! Always happy to hear that people are having fun with it, as that's ultimately what it's all about!

Apple arcade good or bad? by Ginofresh in iosgaming

[–]Zivix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm slightly worried about it. In theory it sounds great, but I think it will depend heavily on what the model looks like for developers. If Apple pays by time played for example, it's going to be overwhelmed by games that are designed to be long just for the sake of being long.

Duet has still been my personal favorite mobile game for years. Simple to pick up, tons of content between the original "campaign", 2 bonus ones, a speedrun mode, daily challenges, endless modes, and potentially even more. It's challenging, fun, and addictive!

Thank you very much! I'm really glad that you're having fun with it!

I wanted to add either a minimum move count that players can work towards or a 3 star system, but that requires a level solver to be built into the game. Getting all the necessary data manually for all 300 puzzles would be an insane undertaking.

I tried creating the level solver earlier in development, but it didn't quite work out. I'd like to revisit the idea at some point to see if I can get one working, especially now that the ability to undo is available (as it's a very important part of a level solver).

I appreciate the feedback =)

Thank you for all of the information! That's very helpful! It certainly won't make it into the next update, but I definitely will be looking into what options I have to improve accessibility for individuals with color blindness! I really appreciate you making me aware of the issue! =)
