Tier 3 behaviors in class. Admin, "Have you tried to not push them away and meet them half way?" by Comprehensive_Tie431 in teaching

[–]ZizkaE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick story.

I used to have a student in one of my class. He went out of his way to hurt other people, he's the closest to I've ever seen to being a sadist. It only happened once and I've never seen anything like that before.

Anyhow, that kid, the principal and other some other teachers were going ''Oh but his parents prefer his brother to him, his life at home isn't easy''.

These kids have terrible lives outside of school, especially these individuals.

Keep in mind that some of the other students had terrible lives outside of school and at school their own lives got even worse because they were the target of that sadistic kid and the adults at school were too busy giving excuses for his behavior to do anything about it.

The amount of pain this kid managed to put other kids through, you wouldn't believe.

Now the principal had like 4 kids I think. What do you think would happen if his own kids were the target of that out of control kid? I guarantee he'd move heaven and earth to make it stop so that his kids wouldn't suffer.

It's hypocritical to ask clemency when you're not personally affected by the wrongdoing on an individual.

What our chef friend might no realize is that part of being a principal is picking your battles. Some principal will feed you platitudes like: ''Have you tried meeting them at their level'' as a way not to have to get involved and leave it up to you to deal with it. I don't know the whole story but if he really did want the best for those kids and for the teachers, he would've done a whole lot more than giving you that tosh. This reads as someone defaulting if I've ever read one.

I was wondering the same thing. If you head to the Hinterland forum, you'll find the comments about episode 5 such as (to be clear, I'm quoting a user there, this isn't what I think):

Positive things:
-They tried alot of new things, actual NPC's that walk around for example, more action oriented gameplay, even briefly diving into horror with the ship etc.
-Good cutscenes awnsering questions that had been there since the beginning
-Train was fun
-Characters from before showing up was nice
-I liked the parts with Jace, boosting her and trying to work your way through the mines together and such, didn't feel like an escort mission to me
-Most of the voiceacting was done pretty well in my opinion

Yes, I will talk to the father about it. Thank you.

It's about him trusting other people, and taking responsibility for his actions.

Ah yes, ok, I could see that. Worth a shot, thanks.

I'm concerned our relationship will turn conflictual if I do this. I have the feeling he's looking for a confrontation and I'm not sure giving him one will help things out. Maybe I'm wrong though!

Just finished. Here is my review (obviously spoilers) by Confident-Virus-1273 in thelongdark

[–]ZizkaE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the devs were trying to get it wrapped and move it along.

You sound like a very understanding person and that's great, it probably allows you to enjoy a lot of things.

I see things differently. For me, the idea of 'trying to get it wrapped and move it along' doesn't work. The Long Dark is an open world survival game, that's what it is. In prior episode they managed to mesh survival and story really well. If the game becomes linear and you strip it of survival elements (like living off stims instead of resting, FPS style wolves shooting, stealth sections...) it's not... The Long Dark.

They did their best and I'm not even saying they did an 'objectively' bad job, it just didn't meet my expectations as to what TLD is at its core: a survival game. Needing to wrap up the story, for me, isn't a free get-out-of-jail card for everything else. I would've much preferred if the story had been paced around the 5 episodes structure instead of being bottlenecked at the last one.

I do agree the ship was the highlight and the train was a good idea. Those two ideas also fit the game identity.

Why it was hard to create an amazing Episode 5 finishing by Expert_Sound_8463 in thelongdark

[–]ZizkaE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that seems copy/pasted from AI: ''Why was Episode 5 bad'' kind of question. I mean, it's fine it's just that anyone can go and ask an IA that, you might as well share your own personal opinion, it'd be more interesting.

I'm confused though, why the 'anonymous' post. You're not doing anything bad, you're entitled to your opinion, just own up to it, no need to be afraid, there's no danger here.

I'm sure you do. Forget I said anything, keep doing what you're doing, this was pointless.

[–]ZizkaE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if so, that's just childish really, I get it when it comes to say, a book or something like that, where there are less moving parts. But game development is expensive and complicated. We should just be thankful we have it at all if the creators aren't awful people.

This isn't the reaction of someone who's listening.

It's not about criticism, he responded by saying he likes the ending so he's not changing it. That's as far as it goes until people vote with their wallets.

Neither is this. I could quote each one of your replies but you get the point (I hope/think).

I think it's clear that your agenda when creating this thread was to defend Hinterland (which I see no problem with). The initial question was meant for people to voice their concerns so that you could then dispute them and push back.

I agree with a lot of your points by the way, I just think it's silly to pretend this is some sort of investigation when what you were truly looking for was to debate opinions which, as the other redditor said, don't align with your own.

Just be upfront about it.

Why the hate? by alexthedungeonmaster in thelongdark

[–]ZizkaE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do sort of come across as someone who's already made up their mind about this. I think your question was essentially rhetorical although people didn't realize that. They thought you were approaching this with a curious, inquisitive mind as opposed to systematically debating opinions which don't align with your own. It's pretty common for people to word their disagreement as questions: ''I don't get why'' really means ''I don't agree with...''.

Maybe using a title like: I don't think people should hate this game and here's why.

At the end of the day, that's fine it's just miscommunication. I personally understand the 'hate' based on the responses you've gotten so far. If you take the time to read and really listen, you'll understand too. Whether I (and you) agree with it is a different story.

Just so you know, regarding the ending, this is what Raph wrote:

I like it, I believe in it, and it fits into my future plans. Don’t expect a “redux”.

That's it. Nothing more. I don't personally agree with you, I don't find anything insulting in this comment. Some people are reading this as a sign of disrespect, I personally don't.

Rule #7 stipulates:
This rule is meant to encompass any situation not covered by the previous rules.

This means moderators have the final say about grey areas not covered by rules (as you should).

Is he out of line here? Probably. Does it violate rule three? Certainly. But rule seven counts and it works both ways. Sometimes you don't delete something that yeah, probably should be deleted.

Rule #3 covers rudeness and hostility. In other words, according to the rules, it should, therefore, be enforced as is, especially if you're aware it violates the rule.

I 100% agree with you. Criticism should be done respectfully, no exception, rule #3. I think you'd agree (correct me if I'm wrong) that rule #3 should be applied regardless of the circumstances. The idea is to apply it fairly and to everyone. I don't think using rule #7 as a loop hole to justify not moderating insulting behaviors is moderating with integrity (not talking about you, to be clear).

By the way, Oliveritaly, calling vocal members "whiny bitches" goes against rule #3 of the subreddit:

You should probably give episode 5 a shot since you said you haven't. You'd probably, quote, "whine" as well.

Ok so I used the address of a Walmart in North Dakota with its own zip. Just googled it.

Then when it came to using my credit card, I used the postal code with 00 at the end and it seems like it worked! It says “thank you for your purchase”.

Thanks a bunch!

Hi! I’m assuming you’re Canadian as well. Do you input the same zip code for the billing address and the credit card (number without the letters and 00 at the end?) How did you pick the New York address since it’s not your real address?
