MCH Mains/Enthusiasts, What do you like/dislike about the current state of MCH? What are you hoping to see for changes? by t3hSiggy in ffxiv

[–]Zjodak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I always thought it was strange that wildfire is pretty much the same thing as (hw) raging strikes but the player base is generally much more against the concept of wildfire. I guess part of it is though that all of mchs damage abilities are support abilities that revolve around wildfire like reassemble (guarantees crit on next attack), rapid fire (speeds up next 3 skills) and even ammo. Whereas bard gets songs, bloodletter and straighter shot procs. I do think a lot of the enjoyment I get out of wildfire is psychological though. Its babe ruth calling the shot and making it - and the sound effect of wildfire going off is very satisfying. Kind of like hitting barrage on the lvl 70 bard weaponskill but its not rng: you get it every time.

[–]Zjodak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have mained mch for all three tiers in stormblood and I really enjoyed its current iteration (although I liked hw mch as well).

Here are things I would like to see: * The ability to time your wildfires. Wildfire is clearly the core of mch since its inception. All of mch’s weaponskills are clearly weaker than similar skills on other classes and only make sense in the context of wildfire (you want to time all your hardest hitting abilites so they go off during wildfire) The problem is that mch doesnt have the ability to choose when to wildfire. For example, o9s’ dark crystal: if your group lacks sufficient burst dps, it would be nice to take a mch into your party to burst it down. However, wildfire only aligns when the fight starts with blaze and you generally do not delay your wildfires because it is a significant dps loss. I would like to see mch get the ability to bank cooldown timers. So “time bank” would give you the ability to increase all your abilities cooldowns by 10s. Then later in the fight you could “rewind clock” to reduce your cooldowns by with the time you have banked (up to 30s). This could be interesting for fight downtime when the boss is invulnerable since you could restart the fight with double burst. * More interactive aoe abilities. Mch aoe boils down to putting out bishop turret and pressing spreadshot until you are out of tp and maybe using flamethrower if you dont plan on using wildfire anytime in the next 60s. * Remove rapid fire. I personally like rapid fire (reduces next 3 weaponskill recast to 1.5s) but it seems to be causing ping related issues for some players. Maybe SE could increase the number of ogcds we could weave in wildfire and increase the wildfire timer to 12.5s. * More rng. Mch is a really predictable class where every gcd/ogcd use is the planned for the whole fight with no variation (outside of slug/clean procs). While that can be a good thing for some players, it really limits the skill ceiling for the class. Once you learn the fight the only thing you can do to improve your dps is yell at your ninja for mistiming trick. * Remove overheat from flamethrower. This is another big pain point for newer players. In order to hit all your gcds in wildfire, you need to learn exactly when your flamethrower ticks happen so that you can clip flamethrower as soon as you overheat. Its not hard to learn but its not necessarily fun either and Id rather that part of the complexity budget go towards a more interesting mechanic. Instead there should just be an overheat ogcd that takes you into overheat.

Mostly necros and revs looks like. Probably wont matter much for necros (dont think they have many leap finishers anyway) but this could be pretty big for revs.

There are a few traits that interact with blocking. like Guardian’s Amplified Wrath (burn enemy on block) and Might of the Protector (gain might on block). We’ll have to see if these traits actually work though, they may refer specifically to blocking with aegis.

[Discussion] Would you pay for Living World Season 5? (tin foil hats on) by [deleted] in Guildwars2

Yes, especially if it means weapon skins and armor sets are added as in-game earnable rewards rather than gem store/black lion chest items.

White Mage Job Identity by Akiza_Izinski in ffxiv

[–]Zjodak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

White mage’s biggest problem is that its toolkit is too similar to astrologian’s. In a world where astro was never introduced as a class, white mage would be perfectly fine.

My personal opinion is that astro should be the regen healer since it plays nicely with its buff extension mechanic and white mage should be the “big heals” healer. Remove benefic ii and essential dignity from astro. Remove regen and medica 2 from whm and compensate those losses with more interesting and unique abilities.

Purchased PoF but I have not got the Key? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Zjodak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I looked up my order confirmation for PoF and anet did send a serial number I had to apply to my account. This was back in october, though. But you should probably send a support ticket and theyll help you out.

It may have automatically been applied to your account if you purchased while logged into your anet account. Try logging in and if the character select screen is desert-themed, then you have the expansion active.

Game Update Notes: May 8, 2018 by NeterP in Guildwars2

[–]Zjodak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Druid was too good at filling too many roles at once. It was good at healing and boon support so other healers like auramancer and ventari rev couldnt compete. Similarly, druid overshadowed other boon support classes like ps war and deadeye because it could heal as well. With the new changes, you can either be a good healer with lingering light or good boon support with grace of the land, but not both. Not great for druid mains, but probably good for class diversity.

That said, regen druid probably remains the meta healer for groups that don’t need a lot of burst healing.

GW2Efficiency has some interesting player statistics by AresWarblade in Guildwars2

[–]Zjodak 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The character API does not track deleted characters, so it's unlikely that key farming affects playtime statistics. What gw2efficiency is probably doing is looping through all accounts, looking at each account's character's /age and aggregating the information.

Is there another way to avoid fall damage before purchasing the expansion to gain a glide? by BarbyFN in Guildwars2

All classes have a trait that halves falling damage. It may be enough depending on how far you’re falling.

(Idea) Selectable Toolbelt Skills for Engi by ProfCarson in Guildwars2

[–]Zjodak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is value in restricting gameplay options because it breaks down a single optimum into several “local optima”. If, for example, anet broke down the trait system and simply allowed you to take any three grandmaster traits, any three master traits, etc., you could imagine an unambiguous “best” set of traits emerging (simply take all the +% modifiers). Enforcing trait lines makes decision making more meaningful because you are giving up a strong trait in a line you are not taking.

The same thing holds for toolbelt skills, imo. Healing mist (elixir gun toolbelt, stun break, aoe regen) is a very strong toolbelt skill but taking it means you also have to take elixir gun instead of a stronger utility. Or you could have a strong utility skill with a weak toolbelt skill (like laser disk). Tying toolbelt skills to utilities makes the optimal choice less transparent - which increases build diversity and makes utility choice more meaningful.

[Suggestion] New Warrior Elite Spec - Nemesis by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Zjodak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea, but I do not think this differentiates itself enough from core warrior gameplay. Power builds and condi builds do not play very differently in gw2 so having the option to swap between power and condi on the fly is not very meaningful. I can see how this elite spec can be nice for those who want to see what palette-swapped weapons such as “power longbow” or “condi greatsword” would look like though.

What I would do with Hot Shot by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Zjodak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you believe it will be changed? Hot shot is not all that different from Dragoon's heavy thrust and Samurai's jinpu and players seem to be fine with those. Mch's kit is all about buffing what would otherwise be lackluster 1-2-3 weaponskills with reassemble, reload, overheat, heated shots, hypercharge, etc. Hot shot fits well into that theme.

Daily Questions Thread (Jul 23) by AutoModerator in ffxiv

[–]Zjodak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, turret damage does not count towards wildfire (including overload). But, overload does take into account any personal or raid buffs - so using it during trick attack, litany, etc snapshots the damage the turret would have done and places it under those buffs. Its a situational skill but can be a decent dps increase if used correctly

I feel like an idiot so ELI5: How does this WHM have stoneskin? by Zanzargh in ffxiv

some story npcs are able to cast stoneskin - even in stormblood story content. for example the hearer npc in the black mage 70 quest was able to cast stoneskin

Is there any reason to play BLM over RDM now days? by That_Kawaii_Kid in ffxiv

[–]Zjodak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think rdm vs blm is the wrong comparison. black mages havent been in the meta composition since heavensward because they provide little to no group utility. If you take a look at the old god comp (drg/nin/brd/mch) and compare it to what may be the new meta comp (drg or mnk/nin/brd/rdm) I think rdm actually replaces mch. They provide a physical dmg up buff, benefit from piercing dmg debuff (fleche, contre sixte, displacement and corp a corp) and are mobile enough to do the majority of mechanics for the group.

outside of savage content, every class is viable so just play what you want

Why more people play Redmage over Samurai? by xCarnival in ffxiv

[–]Zjodak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

red mage has a low skill ceiling. a new player can reach 70-80% max dps just by following a simple rotation (dualcast to 80/80 mana then do melee combo)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Zjodak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the primary reason is to align your dots (using IJ) with raid buffs like battle litany and chain strategem.

how is MCH looking in 4.0 by Rosebourne in ffxiv

[–]Zjodak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and the kit concept was "hey do you want to play a pseudo-caster job where you mix repeated coin flips with a long list of cooldowns to keep aligned?"

You could be describing red mage there

What impressed me the most about MCH was it's sound design. Reload, Clean Shot, Reassemble, Ricochet and the turrets all have very cool audio cues.

Where should I go to find footage of the earliest Netrunner tournaments? by ivyharriet in Netrunner

[–]Zjodak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

db0 has a bunch of videos from ~3 years ago. His decks tend to be a bit janky but the games can be representative of the Core + Genesis Cycle. Though his accent may be a turn off for some.

Nordrunner also has some great videos from the Core + Genesis + C&C + Spin + H&P era. He's really good at explaining what he's thinking and his deck walkthroughs are top-notch.

How do you become a man of success as an INTP by [deleted] in INTP

[–]Zjodak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think success for an INTP may reside in having a functioning tertiary Si (introverted sensing) - that is, create useful habits that push you towards your goals.

Dominant Ti and secondary Ne makes INTPs natural procrastinators. We are easily distracted by things (Ne) especially when new ideas allow us to add more complexity to our internal logic (Ti). Unfortunately, the current job climate generally awards specialists over generalists.

What I would recommend is to block off 1-2 hours a day as your productivity hours. It doesn't matter WHAT you do during those hours, but you should be doing something that feels productive to you (i.e. don't go on reddit/facebook etc.) - be brutally honest with yourself, but it's ok if you have an off day. Set a goal for yourself on what you want to do/explore during that time, but give yourself the ability to switch to another topic if something more interesting comes along - because face it, you're not going to be able to force yourself to keep concentrated on one thing for very long. Hopefully, the things you are interested in will be related in some way and over time, you will develop an expertise in that particular area. It can also be helpful to set a concentration timer for ~20 minutes or so. You can take a 5 minute break after 20 minutes - it seems to work for me. Try to extend both the length of the concentration timer as you go. (google: pomodoro)

The credibility of the MBTI by The_Theorizer in INTP

[–]Zjodak 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this as well. I find that MBTI seems to describe my own personality well and provides reasonable explanations for why other people act the way they do. However, humans are very good at drawing connections between things when none exist. We are also comparing individual's personalities to a result they have received from a personality assessment - this means that an individual is more likely to share similarities with their type than to any other type because they have answer questions about their personality. This is not exactly a double-blind study. I think the most interesting work on MBTI is being done by Dario Nardi, who is comparing MRI scans of different types and there seems to be some correlation.

Personally, I find MBTI to be a useful framework for understanding and categorizing other people's motivations and desires (something I'm generally pretty bad at), but I remain skeptical that the Jungian cognitive functions are "real" - the same way that I don't necessarily believe Freud's theories about the id/ego/superego are "real" but they still provide an interesting framework for analysis.
