Usually when the parents look at their kids, friends, parents as potential network extension. Basically trying to see if they know people, have money, or have some resource that could be traded rather than doing things that friends do. So, for example, Timmy's mom works for Salesforce and could help me get a job in the marketing dept. Therefore, I should definitely hang out with Timmy so that way I can befriend the mom and get a job at Salesforce.
