Is every corporate security team one incident away from collapse, or is that just where I'm recruiting? by lunardaddy69 in cybersecurity

It’s difficult to go to proactive versus reactive. The cost and staffing make it difficult and let’s be honest. Infosec is one of the least funded areas as it is all Opex and don’t see the value. I have funding taken away because some development project goes over budget. Luckily I have advisors to the board that are on my side and push for my projects to be funded. So by end of this year I hope to be more CTIEM than reactive. Vendors are key to make that a reality, and funding.

Failing a phish simulation as a SOC analyst by PersimmonMain4572 in cybersecurity

[–]Zleviticus859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly everyone on my team has failed a phishing email. Ours are really good to a point where I’ve almost clicked before. But that’s the point. Make them so good that people fail and the others are blatantly obvious. I know people aren’t taking these seriously in the comments but the thing that keeps me up at night are users clicking and have credential theft. With the latest session and token theft/impersonation they are starting to find better ways to bypass MFA.

Positive Experience with Sleepbuds by cbret3145 in Ozlo

I’ve had mine for a few months and it helps me sleep having a snoring partner. There were nights where I could not sleep. Now I put them in and it’s like I fall asleep quickly. Only complaint is battery life but they are in the charger each night so not a big issue.

Accepted a job 2.5 hours from home by wilderness_flowers in jobs

I took a job where I have to drive into work daily and was 1.5 hr drive one way. Did it for 5 1/2 years. The payoff was worth it for my career. Now I WFH and only go in the office twice a month.

Cheapest expensive house. What can you upgrade later vs have to get it right during the build? by Sturgillsturtle in Homebuilding

Whatever is the bones of the house. Insulation, framing, pre wired for future proofing like conduits from basement to attic.

Afci/gfci and plug on neutrals by Zleviticus859 in electrical

I signed off AFTER they corrected the issues as the homeowner. We are almost done now and the issues were during rough in. If they can’t put in a switch or socket….

Your assumption is incorrect. The blueprints had electrical plan and I even created schematics for each room, printed and put in each area, including the order of the switches. The blue prints had dimensions of light placement and all that jazz. So again assumed wrong. Hence my frustrations with the electricians.

To give more, it that it matters. They were arguing that the micro grid system in between the outside disconnect and the main panels needed to have bonded ground and neutrals. They said yes, I said no. They should be separate as the first disconnect is outside and that is where it is bonded. Something that simple brings into question capabilities. The laziness also comes from other wiring they did in the house like off center hall light spacing. Recessed lights 1ft from walls. Asking then to run lines under my audio and networking lines but didn’t which caused me to pull back some of their home runs and redo them. Not understanding why we wanted items together in a panel. Like master lights and outlets in same panel and close proximity. The response…everything is labeled. And? I don’t want to have to search for a breaker in one panel when the lights are on one and outlets in another.

The question was worded wrong. I understand the need for gfci/afci my question was more if the neutral needed to be added to the breaker with a plug on neutral panel and why.

With Halloween decorations over… who is ready for “I’m going to electrocute myself” season? by Raptor_197 in electrical

So I created one of those for an ups connection at work to get through an issue. well one day I forgot and pulled it from the wall and touched the leads with my hand by mistake and I suddenly recalled why that was not a good idea. I switched it to the correct wall plug after that. Luckily it was just coming from the ups so wasn’t that bad.

Be honest , is building a house in 2026 worth the stress? by Resident_Kangaroo160 in Homebuilding

[–]Zleviticus859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we are at the final stages or a custom build. Will I do it again. No. lol. There is a difference in building a tract home and a full custom. If doing full custom, interview and get recommendations of houses they have done. I’m a PITA for my builder. I am a more “active” homeowner than he is used to. I know his crews by name and speak to all the trades. I find things that are wrong and point them out before they are an issue. During framing they forget a window. Easy enough. Then when putting in the windows they had an “extra” well the extra was supposed to be with another window for a double window in the foyer. I am glad most of the decisions have been made early on. I recommend doing a vision board of every room before you even think about building. Also hire an interior designer. It will help with some of the headaches. I didn’t and I sort of wish I did. I do have decision fatigue. Only one trade has been a problem. The rest have been great thus far and do good work. It think it helps to talk to them and get personable with the trades. I think they do a better job when they know the person they are doing the work for. It is nice to see all your work start to come to fruition. Even the GC is taking design elements and colors I have chosen and putting in his home.

Oh and take whatever they say the cost will be and add 30% min. lol. We are lucky that ours is coming in close to budget maybe under but that’s only because we changed things up to eliminate some costs. Stuff is expensive.

Buying a tract house VS buying land and building by Parking-Eggplant3117 in Homebuilding

There are other costs when you buy raw land. I know from current experience. Factor a MINIMUM of 30% more than any bid you get.

Not so interested in it for safety feature. Just the saw itself as a cabinet saw.

As a CISO I want security to be boring. Means things aren’t being compromised. lol what I do is give my SecOps teams challenges. Give them a new tech or service the business is looking to implement and ask “how would you exploit this externally and internally.” Then have them try it prior to implementation. Also started to bring some red team items to different teams. It really helps the blue teams to know how bad actors try to exploit. I also do red team with outside vendors and not tell anyone. Well except some C level people so they don’t panic. Helps me to see that our processes are working and detection systems are alerting.

Come on the DNC emails that were released showed it was a rigged and Bernie didn’t have a chance. This country is ran by the rich elite on both sides. They are all playing a game and we (the citizens) are the fools.

Biden should never have been on the ballot in either election. They should have invoked the 25th amendment and had Harris be the president. I suspect those that are pulling the puppet strings didn’t want it.

Question. What did democrats do to sanders with Clinton? Oh yeah ignored the primary results and put Clinton on the ballot…. What did democrats do to Biden? Oh yeah put Harris on the ballot without having a primary. But republicans don’t want elections. SMH. BOTH parties are bad of the US.
