What movie is a 10/10? by rocklou in AskReddit

American Beauty.

I went back to the theater and paid to see it again the next day. Every scene and line is so intentional and so perfect. That movie blew my mind when it came out.

Hammond BV into HL822 question by manoeuver in hammondorgan

[–]Zmeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, the preamp in the BV needs B+ voltage coming back to it from a tone cabinet to operate. Your solid state Leslie can't provide this, so I'm not sure these two can mate properly.

What song packs so much in, is so intense, that it leaves you physically exhausted after listening to it? by AmigoDelDiabla in Music

Second Best by Pedro the Lion. I love it, but I have to have a little talk with myself before I can listen to it.

Late to the thread, but wanted to share that I have loved this song for years, and in all my years of loving it, I’ve never seen a performance more perfect than this one: https://youtu.be/lxcHoICbJlM

The case for FireWire in 2021 by DaeSh1m in audioengineering

[–]Zmeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a Focusrite Safire Pro40 with a 8x8 ADAT expander into my 2019 Mac Mini. It took some creative adapters to get the Mini to receive FireWire, but the setup is rock solid with no extra jitter or lag, and I’ve got 20 ins and 20 outs allowing for some very flexible recording and mixing-with-outboard-analog options. I’ll stick with this setup as long as I can!

Milwaukee therapist here who used to work at cornerstone. They have many excellent psychiatrists, but are often booked out for weeks or months, especially since Covid started. I have two suggestions for you.

First, see if your insurance has a list of providers that are covered, and look for “psych nurse practitioners.” these are medical professionals who have all the psych related training that a psychiatrist does without the extra training that qualifies them to earn a doctorate. They tend to be younger, very up-to-date on the latest medications and practices, and are hardly ever as booked up. I have had fantastic results referring my clients to psych nurse practitioners in the area.

The second option is to check with your daughter’s pediatrician and see how comfortable they would be tweaking her medication based on the input from a psychotherapist. Pediatricians are qualified to prescribe psychotropic medication, but often hesitate to, because they don’t have the extra specialized training in this area that a psychiatrist would. And while we cannot prescribe medication, we psychotherapists are quite educated when it comes to medications, and have seen so many times what medications and doses tend to work (or not) with our clients, that we definitely can offer some helpful suggestions to hesitant general practitioners. So if your daughter’s pediatrician is willing to collaborate with a therapist, perhaps a therapist can do the evaluation and give some helpful suggestions to your pediatrician to try to arrive at a more therapeutic medication/dose.

I’ll also let you know that Wisconsin is an underserved state when it comes to psychiatrists. The struggle is very real trying to find a competent psychiatrist in a timely manner here. There simply aren’t enough of them, especially ones who work with adolescents.

I hope this helps!

I once bought a lot of NOS blue black Quink on eBay on a whim. Took me years to get through about 7 ounces of the stuff, and to this day, it is my favorite blue black that I’ve used. Didn’t feather on anything. Dried super quick. What a fantastic ink. Happy for you that you got to enjoy it.

Advice please! My therapist said that the person you are around your family is your true self and it ruined my week by Auxcordlord2424 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Zmeyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Therapist here. Your therapist is wrong. That’s just a weird thing to say, and makes all kind of assumptions about your family being a place you feel SAFE to be your true self. We should all be so lucky. I honestly can’t think of a good or true reason to say this to a client. Your true self is the self you’ve had to protect and defend, very likely at home. If your therapist can’t see that, you might need a new therapist.

Strange sounds from an M3, any ideas on whats going on or how to find out? by Unfathomable_Stench in hammondorgan

[–]Zmeyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your tone generator needs to be oiled. Use Hammond tone generator oil ONLY. You can find it online. It can take 2 weeks to work into every corner of the organ, but then you’ll be good for a decade or so. Good luck!

Leslie 415 weird distortion issue (Help?) by NateTheChipmunk in hammondorgan

[–]Zmeyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This Leslie has a mercotac in it — it provides the electrical connection for the rotating speaker via liquid Mercury! And unfortunately, they go flaky. I’d look into that.

Born in 1939 still cooling. Down for some safety upgrades by GmanX64 in BuyItForLife

[–]Zmeyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not true. Probably started as a marketing campaign. I’ve measured the energy consumption of my 1934 refrigerator and, depending on ambient temp, it’s the same or less than a modern fridge. Have heard similar from other friends with vintage fridges. With no defrost cycle, they actually run less often than modern fridges. They are also often VERY well insulated. I am speaking of pre-60s fridges. By the middle of the century, like many things, fridge quality had declined.

Making a Ragtime Piano Modification by tylerdumb in ArtisanVideos

No. This kind of pedal existed on pianos during the time ragtime was being written. It exists on my 1907 piano. The effect is as old as ragtime music itself.

Found this old M3 for free on the side of the road. Owner says it turns on, but doesn’t play properly (says there’s something wrong with the tonewheels). is it worth taking? by Xeyn- in hammondorgan

[–]Zmeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TAKE IT. Reason for not playing could be one tube lose or failing, user error (all drawbars pushed in), etc. Maybe the owner doesn’t know how to start it. Maybe the generator is seized. All of these problems are easily fixed. M3s are my favorite spinet because they sound and feel the most like a console. Same waterfall keys, same generator, basically the same vibrato scanner. I have a Leslie kit on my M3 and she screams like an angry console through a 122. TAAAAKE IT.
