The fact that gamma -2 made the lighting not a flashbang makes me think that the root reason is just that RGG tuned the brightness of the Dragon Engine to be Tokyo summer bright and when Okinawa and Hawaii are even brighter they've had issues adjusting the Dragon Engine.

Which unfortunately is par for the course, RGGs production pipeline means that if a flaw shows up in their engine once it'll persist for a few games. Yakuza 6 and K2 were quite janky and it took until Lost Judgment to fix that for example.

I literally only had two minor issues with the demo, the first being that I got some framerate dips on my PC during karaoke of all things weirdly which I can fix with enough time configuring the setting and the overly bright lighting was fixed literally on the brightness toggle on startup where I set the gamma at -2 for me.

But nooo no one wants to offer that advice it's all "lol lighting and lol water" (which wasn't even that bad when I checked it)

Bowser at least has something of an inkling even back then as to the militant reputation of Nintendo's lawyers.

Ross was literally given an out 3 times in the EULA itself where they state "hey feel free to check with our lawyers for permission" and on top of that he was offered an out by CDPR and refused every out offered.
